Sometimes, Samuel, it's a blessing if you don't speak french.

The OP didn't ask for French bands with great lyrics Tongue I really like the album regardless.

Don't think I've seen anyone mention Mona Lisa yet.  If you like 70's Ange, the 70's Mona Lisa albums are very similar in sound and, how should I say...urgently expressive vocals Wink

This is more metal than prog, but Therion did an album of symphonic operatic metal versions of french songs from the 60's and 70's, called Les Fleurs du Mal. I thought it was enjoyable.

Brel is tops, really!!!

And if you understand/master French, his lyrics are often out of this world
Not a single word. Smile Well, maybe J`T´aime.

That reminded me (so I had a dig about) that I have an lp by CANO called 'Au nord de notre vie' (the north is our Life? sorry my French is limited) which I got with a batch of Canadian pressings some 25 years ago.. to be honest I had forgotton i'd got it! What a great lp, how could I have overlooked it for so long!?

Another French lp ive unearthed is by a band called 'Bahamas' and the lp is called 'le voyageur immobile' released about 1976 on the 'Disque motors' label.. it reminds me a bit of classic 10cc with a hint of Genesis. Camel maybe... quite poppy in places.. sort of Art rock and I really don't know anymore about the band and they don't seem to be listed on this site... Anyone got any extra information? The whole lp is available on youtube if you want to listen :)

The first French band/album I ever got into was Pulsar's excellent "Halloween".  Their albums had an interesting mix of French & English lyrics...though their French accents were so strong it made their English lyrics almost indecipherable anyway LOL

I would recommend a little-know French band, NIL.  In particular, their album "Novo Sub Sole" has some of the most beautiful, female, French vocals I've ever heard!  Check out samples at http://nilweb.free.fr/.  They also have lyrics in their download area, which would be great for someone learning the language.
