Still Life for my tastes. I can see Pawn Hearts as being their most classic album though.

Hard to beat Pawn Hearts, though Do Not Disturb is a very strong effort.
I do love A Grounding In Numbers a whole lot too. Outstanding !!

I also think their latest "Do Not Disturb" is on par with their 70s work, and "A Grounding in Numbers"2 is great too. But I have to go with "Pawn Hearts".

VdGG never made a bad album; I even love "Present", though many don't like the improvisational CD. But I love these strange improvisations.

BaldJean and I; I am the one in blue.

^ Oh yeah !! Disc 2 took me back to when I first discovered VDGG (around 1990) - some of the sounds Hugh gets still make me buzz

My favorite Van Der Graaf Generator album is World Record. Albeit an unusual choice, I think the musicianship is superb. The vocals, particularly, are some of Hamill's best, but the lyrics are not as great. Meurglys III (The Songwriters Guild) is perhaps one of the greatest epics ever.

(I guess if World Record is my favorite Van Der Graaf Generator album, it is one of my favorites of all time.)

Yes, both of these albums are great. But they haven't yet stood the test of time to surpass the classic period albums.

I actually prefer the improvisational CD! I especially love the track "Manuelle".

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

World Record and Pawn Hearts
Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

Pawn Hearts is my sentimental favorite.
Godbluff is probably their most accomplished record.
But Sill Life has my full attention these days!

hmmm.. .considering I can't stand the group on several principals...   and I really enjoy that album. Probably for NOT falling prey to the things I don't like the group for... I think you could say it is their best album haha
