And this is the reason why the big companies, like AT&T and Comcast, and Disney, and what not, are buying those folks out ... it will not only take out "competition", it will also keep all the money in-house and the issue with "bandwidth" is no longer an issue.
The good one now is will Disney buy Comcast, or Comcast buy Disney in the future? I already see this as a huge battle of the behemoths for supremacy on the airwaves ... but both Comcast and Disney need a serious take down ... their control of things is bad, and the FCC is ignoring it. |
It was a weird set of circumstances. Admittedly i jumped the gun in pointing the finger but that doesn't mean that my fears won't come to pass. The situation is getting worse and even though this was just a false alarm it has definately upped my paranoia as well as conditioned me to expect the absolute worse at any given moment. In the meantime, i'm just happy to surf the web with impugnity once again

Well there's been a lot of irrational bollocks about net neutrality being produced on especially Reddit and Youtube, I'm not saying it's good but it's probably no worse than the entire debate being nigh impossible on the internet right now, even Anthony Fantano's video about it was sort of sloppy... Or maybe I should just spend a little less time on Youtube...

LOL. What a strange day. WHen i woke up and this happened i convinced myself that a fascist dictatorship has ruined our country and the internet being censored was a the first sign. Turns out the main tenant of the building just didn't pay the bill on time and that they don't switch off the whole thing but selective sites. I still don't understand why but OMG i can visit sites like PA again! OK, i'm an addict and an idiot!

^ yes and no. Basically whaat the net neutrality thing did was quash the evolution of major conglomerations overpowering all the little guys. The act basically nipped that in the bud and also there were other forces at play. Unfortunately it will never be the same even if they unabolish it

Net Neutrality was established in 2015 and abolished in 2017. Internet going back to 2015 regulation.

Apparently big companies have to pay for access therefore only highly profitable sites can afford to remain in existence. This is a deregulation in process and at the moment I can access only the largest sites without paying for an upgrade. |
How does that work exactly? Is there a list of sites you can access and you have to pay to access any other site?

If the ISPs were to limit access to anything, it would be in their interest to limit access to services that cost a lot of bandwidth to them and that people would actually be willing to pay extra for. That would be something like Netflix or Youtube, not some relatively obscure music forum that's mostly just text.

If this is the case I will find absolutely zero reason to continue giving one f'ing red cent to these meg-opolies for limited access to stuff I care about and full access to the chosen proliferative. I already suppress my consternation at the invasion of privacy.
