I'm really torn between Katharine Hepburn and Bette Davis....
Oh, multiple votes?! Excellent! I'll throw a vote to Liv Ullman as well. Was Joan Crawford considered for the poll?

Familiar with about two thirds of them to some extent. My gut feeling which I don't trust except regarding the arts says Jeanne Moreau... She's was just something else - a presence unlike any other actor I can think of. So I voted for her although I really don't know enough about the careers of 80% of these actresses.
What an intriguing face that Katharina Thalbach has - whom I've must have seen on the silver screen as I've seen The Tin Drum (which means I've seen Angela Winkler as well). |

Love them all (true!), some more than others (of course!) - Juliette Binoche makes me want to become a woman (how can I praise her more?) : Great acting, classic beauty, lively and intelligent.
Wait...she's not listed...get out of here ! |

Simone Signoret was quite special (young and old) . Dietrich's performance in Judgment at Nuremberg was spellbinding (also Montgomery Clift"s BTW)

Hi, Intersting list of actresses. I think that Liv Ullman might have done even better if she ever got an inch or two away from Ingmar Bergman. Isabelle Huppert ... has a list so big that it is not likely that we will find anything! Catherine Deneuve ... historical ... The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Repulsion, Belle du Jour, Tristana, The Convent, Indochine to name a few Isabelle Adjani ... some insane film roles, but always very good ... The Story of Adele H, The Tenant, Nosferatu (Herzog's), Queen Margot (her best?). Jeanne Moreau ... passed away recently ... make sure you look for her Actor's Studio interview with James Lipton as it is outstanding ... The 400 Blows, A Woman is a Woman, Jules and Jim, Diary of a Chambermaid, Chimes at Midnight, The Bride Wore Black, La Femme Nikita, Until the End of the World, The Lover (voice as the narrator only), Map of the Human Heart, Belle Epoque. If you think some folks did not like her, consider this ... Truffaut, Godar, Bunuel, Orson Wells, Wim Wenders were some of the directors that cast her ... it ought to tell you something. Julie Christie ... possibly my personal favorite of all of them as I wrote a screenplay for her ... Billy Liar, Darling, Doctor Zhivago, Fahrenheit 451, Far From the Madding Crowd, Petulia, The Go-Between, McCabe and Mrs Miller, Don't Look Now, Shampoo, Nashville, Heaven Can Wait, Dragonheart, Hamlet, Away from Her ... she seems to have retired somewhat, and is not as visible today as she once was. Quite an amazing life, and list of films. BTW, multiple votes not taking so I skipped the vote.
