are you waiting to hear by the octet version??
Can't wait to here Fracture; no idea how they're going to make it work. Check out the setlists here: https://tonylevin.com/road-diaries/king-crimson-2017-tour-pt1/

Either Fracture or Lizard - I've had a chance to hear most of the others. For those unaware, King Crimson has been giving away free downloads of random live tracks as they tour. Just check out the news page of their website (https://www.dgmlive.com/news); each song is in its own post, so you'll have to sort through them, but there is quite a few from both the septet and octet. Not sure how long these will remain free, though.

From the show I saw I thought "Red" stood out the most. The drumming was so intricate with the 3 drummers playing synchronized interlocking parts. "Discipline" would be quite something, really wondering what would come out of that one. Already loaded enough with 4 guys. I don't think they'll still be touring after this Fall though unfortunately. Hoping for a new studio release as the octet.

"Larks' tongues. Wrens' livers. Chaffinch brains. Jaguars' earlobes. Wolf nipple chips. Get 'em while they're hot. They're lovely. Dromedary pretzels, only half a denar."

That's weird. When I saw them Red was the biggest disappointment out of all the material I was looking forward to hear. (I'll admit I'm indifferent to most of the material released post 1974 and none of the tunes that were less than 40+ years old thrilled me) Those loudly banging drums in front of the rest of the music ruined the whole delightfully gloomy atmosphere of that tune for me. It was still a fantastic concert but I wish they had brought along atleast one drummer less on tour. Fracture*, 21st Century, Larks and surprisingly The Letters were highlights for me. *glad I saw them while it was still on their setlist

Lizard would be my first choice. A Sailor's Tale would also be nice.

Oh my god, they played Islands?? I wish tickets weren't so expensive, but I have to see them live. It would be my first Crimson show. |

Islands was one of the highlights of the show in Toronto in July. Fripp and Belew have apparently locked horns over material that Belew had a part in. Don't know the details but apparently Belew is fuming.

I wouldn't have minded much if they were not playing any of the Belew era stuff at the show I saw... most of the songs I didn't care so much about were from that era... except for Level 5, that one was one of the highlights and would have hated to miss it. But playing more 70's stuff instead of post 70's would have been perfect for me.

Yeah, they should really do that at some point. Yet, I wonder if "Talking Drum" should be included as a sort of intro to part 2, as well as the "Coda: I have a Dream" after part 4. Also, I would like it to include "Level 5", since I read that one was suposed to be Larks part 5. |

I would say no to The Talking Drum...I feel like the transition between parts I and II would be smooth enough as is (and while played together frequently TTD isn't really part of the suite). If they ever did this, I would say they would include Coda: I HAve A Dream (with or without vocals) as I don't think they've played Part IV live without it (admittedly there have only been a few versions officially released over the years so it's a small sample size). I'd have no problems with Level 5 tacked on at the end (nor would I have if they leave it out) but since they are playing it (fantastically) they might as well!
