Prog is the only pop music that doesn't have a pop culture (fashion) image.

Bowie made what was for the most part a couple of prog albums, and he seemingly changed his "fashion image" for every album.
"It just has none of the qualities of your work that I find interesting. Abandon [?] it." - Eno

^Like I said. No fashion. A good sense of the horrendous... ;)

As for Bowie... very clever guy. Every record company knows records sell based on the image and teeny bop appeal of the artist. So he made some (...a lot of) sophisticated music (which is what really propels good music even if the general public (god, it is SO much fun being patronizingly elitist -I'm surprised prog fans are so spiritually generous.... where was I?) Oh yes, the proles think they have anything to do with what is popular. He kept the pop to a minimum and gave the photographers something to for their editors to publish. Show me don't tell me. (Stock phrase and Rush lyric...) Works wonders.

This is why Abba (here we go again) are still popular with 35 - 45 year old sophisticated pop and ACDC have to keep redoing Back In Black to remain relevant to the 60 year old kids.

Or in prog terms Yes, Genesis, Crim et al need not record another note and remain legends for ever.

But no, capes.... being a human goldfish... I'm sorry but prog pop fans are going to have to get used to the idea that they have to listen to music by guys that look normal (mainly) not drool over a (related) image.

Oh well better than the latest 21st Century pop image. Their grandparents looked cool, probably still do, but the rebellious teens of now look like Happy Days rejects. Dork Rock. Blame Tarantino... Still, girls seem to like dorks. Maybe there's hope for we ordinary prog fans yet. ;)

Yep, that’s pretty much the jest of it. Big smile

Both of you virgin Mars bar eaters ?

Every cliche holds a vestige of truth yes but....does the chick come before the Egg fan or vice versa?

Sports don't attract many women either. Will Die-hard soccer lovers ever consider creating a thread like this ? Elaborate music is often suitable forlonely times, but sometimes we can dance to it with anyone, girls included.
