Rumour has it either either Ovechkin or Backstrom won't be back next year. I personally don't think that will happen but if I'm the Caps GM, I'd check the options to get rid of Ovechkin. It's necessary if they ever want to get past the 2nd round. I guess the decision will be in the owner's hands, after all it's him who gave that 13 year contract to Ovechkin. He doesn't particularly want to win, he prefers attracting people to his stadium with a star like Ovechkin which is understandable. Trade the guy against one top 2 D-man and a top 6 forward and the team could be scary. Will be a hell of a hard trade to make though.

Now I think only Anaheim can possibly have a chance to stop Pittsburgh. Nashville might beat the Ducks but I don't see them coming out on top of Pittsburgh. I say Pittsburgh wins the whole thing (and that's coming from a guy who used to profoundly dislike the team) against Anaheim in the finals although I wish for Ottawa or Nashville to win.

I don't know about you guys but for me the playoffs are not what they used to be. For some weird reason the best teams cannot keep up with the weaker but hungrier ones. Not necessarily a bad thing but honestly it makes the final two rounds relatively uninteresting to have 4 teams in semi-finals among which only one (Anaheim) has a rightful spot in terms of balance. 2014 was the last good playoff year as far as I'm concerned. Some of the greatest series I've ever seen that year, NYR vs Pittsburgh, Montreal vs Boston, Anaheim vs Los Angeles were crazy good series. Not to mention the phenomenal Kings run, coming back from 0-3 to win it in 7 against San Jose, and then winning in 7 against Anaheim and Chicago to lift the cup in the finals. Wow, just remembering makes me excited. I hope the last 3 years were just bad ones and that awesome playoff hockey will be back next year.

Ha! No way! I read a Montreal-bias article recently that suggested the same thing though. Not a trade that would entice me, I'd rather win 5-4 than 1-0 myself. If Tavares doesn't sign a new contract *crossing fingers and toes that won't happen* we'd have to trade him though, but hopefully that starts another rebuild, and I can't see how that scenario includes a soon-to-be 30 year old goalie, however good he is. But with Snow in charge you never know. *shudders* Pinch

Regarding the cup, hoping to see Sens v. Preds in the final, but predicting Pens v. Ducks.

Although a Pens fan, I really thought this was the year of the Caps, but alas the curse continues (thought I heard some colorful metaphors flying through the air from Micky when the game was over :).  I wonder if there is a shakeup coming in the Caps core?

Of course would like to see the Pens go back to back, but would not bother me if the Preds took the cup.

Yeah...guess I'll back the Preds, but really, even though I don't want the Pens/Sens to win it, I wouldn't be terribly upset if they do.

Picks:

Preds in 6
Pens in 5

I still think that the Preds will Lift it but boy, it will be a tough one against Anaheim.

To see Subban disembark in Montréal with the Cup could be quite amusing.

The heart's with the Sens, though.

^ it's true. I suppose they will eventually win the cup on an infinitely long time scale, but I will never pick them to win it (especially with Ovi and Trotz there)

Don't want to root for Pit and don't want to root for the team that eliminated my blueshirts so, go west!

Choose them for the Cup 3 or 4 years ago...never again, man.

Go Sens!

Rangers had there chance...blowing those two games in Ottawa, they deserved to lose.

Oh well. Seems as if the King is destined to be without a ring.

even if the caps blow it in game 7, I'm quite surprised they didn't choke until this point. :p

^Also shocked that Crosby played.  Well, well we may now have a series!  Holtby got in the zone in the 3rd period and Fleury let the flood gates open.

Game on!  Beer

happy to be wrong about Crosby... but shocked they allowed him out there.  That said, it is different game today. I remember one of the color guys noting back in Game 1 that Ovie had a chance to absolutely destroy Crosby behind the net one time and let off of him.  Perhaps it was respect, or fear of the league.  There was another case last night in the 3rd where another Cap could have leveled him, he had the puck and was set up to be levelled.. and the player didn't.  Still... shocked he or any doctor would take the chance.

however like all Caps fans.. happy to see him back. If we lose we lose.. but if we win these next two.. we sure as hell want him in there.

Finally after 11 playoff games this year.. that 3rd period was what we saw over 82 games over the regular season.  If 3rd period Holtby plays to what he can, and had, and Fleury loses half a step... they most certainly can with both. For all that crap thrown at Ovie.. I think any hockey fan saw what the problem was.. now just against the Pens but earlier against the Leafs.. Holtby simply was not playing up to his Vezina worthy (x2 years) standards.

woo hooo.. for game 6. Beer

Hey, I have one for you, his name's Carey Price.

I'll take Kuznetsov and Backstrom but you'll finally have a real chance to win the Cup.

I can give you Nate the Great too...but you keep Eller.

I agree that the consequences of another concussion could be fatal and it would surely be more reasonable to keep away from the game for a little while but honestly he practiced on a regular line yesterday (with Hornqvist and Guentzel I believe) and said in interviews he was ready to come back as soon as the protocol was passed. Sullivan also said he was confident to see Crosby come back in this series. Hell he might even play tonight although that would be careless and stupid. I suspect he did not even have a concussion on Niskanen's hit or a very mild one if any. Perhaps just shook a little and the medical staff preferred not to take any chance.

If there's a game 7 or if they win another one against Washington and reach the ECF, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that he'll play.

ohhh.... I'd take a bet with you on that one.  He doesn't need doctor's clearence to skate..  seriously..  he'd be one bad hit away from.. god knows what. Sorry.. I don't see any doctor giving him clearance so soon, he can get hit.. will get hit... and let's be honest. This is one rich motherf**ker just starting the downside of his career. He's won cups.. what does he have to prove. Would he want to come back?  Publically you say what you have to say.. but deep down?  He is one bad hit away from... god knows what.   Athletes these days do understand what this all about.. forget the football machismo...they can and are retiring early rather than risk spending the rest of their lives drooling upon themselves.

anyhow....Cyber paycheck he doesn't play again this year... I'm obvviously no fan of his.. but he isn't an idiot. Why take the risk.
