Exactly. Which are the ones you love? For me it's "Routine" and "Home Invasion/Regret #9". They are consecutive, so it makes the album quite boring for me.

Love - First Regret/3 Years Older, Home Invasion/Regret #9
Like - Routine, Ancestral
Meh - Hand Cannot Erase, Perfect Life, Transcience, Happy Returns, Ascendant Here On

It's fair to say I (generally) like the longer pieces when it comes to his music. Just find them more interesting. I also like it more when he's more up tempo and heavier. What I've heard of the droney, earlier stuff doesn't seem to scratch the itch, although I need to dig into that era further.

As an aside, I hear a lot of Neal Morse era Spock's Beard in 3 Years Older. I think it's the organ and the some of the harmony. Some of the guitar as well.

I like 3 Years Older as well as Ancestral but I find both unnecessarily long, I get bored halfway through.

Oooh, thanks for the reminder, Tymon, I've been meaning to dig that Cosmic Jokers one out again!

What did you think of that new Maxophone one, Sam?

Tonight's choices:

The Byrds – Younger Than Yesterday
The Byrds – Notorious Byrd Brothers (Ooh, NBB, you’re the bees knees, baby)
King Crimson – In the Court of the Crimson King
Chac Mool – Nadie en Especial (pretty forgettable tunes and dreary vocals, but it's a bit of a Mellotron monster!)
Gila - s/t
Alpha Wave Movement – Eolian Reflections
The Winstons – s/t
Ingranaggi Della Valle – Warm Spaced Blue
Big Big Train - Folklore

Big smile This is my favorite Cosmic Jokers album, I think. It's probably not as powerful as it was when I first checked it out, but I still love that music.

See, I don't recall being blown away by it in the past, but it's been a few years now since I last spun it, so now maybe it will be my time to be amazed by it!

The debut is sadly the only one I have of theirs, a reissued LP of it. I can't recall if I took it along to the Manuel Gottsching concert when he played in Melbourne a year or so ago, but I definitely got Ashra's `New Age of Earth' and `Correlations' signed!
