Bah, humbug, some might say, but as a major Dickhead, it has to be Philip K. for me. He's a particular favourite author of mine. If I were to choose three favourite novels of his: "The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch", "Ubik", and "Dr. Bloodmoney, or How We Got Along After the Bomb".

I like Dickens but PKDick is one of my favorite sci-fi authors of all time and as I mentioned in the other sci-fi thread I have a personal letter from him....so it has to be PK for me..

No vote. I know a bit of Charles Dickens, the name of Emily Dickinson and nothing at all of PKDick. I am a bit more familiar with the work of Derek W. Dick. But that's not what I'm here for. I stumble in to give a honourable mention.
With a recent discussion about simplicity versus complexity, a band called House of Rabbits cleared for inclusion and this thread going on at the same time, my thoughts are bent towards Dick Bruna, writer and illustrator of children's books, who passed away a few days ago aged 89 (RIP). He was one of the two men who put the place where I live on the world map during the second half of the 20th century (the other was Anton Geesink, who became big in Japan) and managed to impress the world with works of great simplicity. He is best known for Nijntje, who is known abroad as Miffy. ![]() |

Despite being from the land of Dickens, Philip K. Dick every time!
The book can never be ruined by the TV Series of The Man In The High Castle! |

I voted Philip K Dick even though Charles Dickens enthralls me. I've read 20 novels between the two. Two of my favorite authors. Emily Dickinson? Meh. As a kid, we used to randomly open an Emily Dickinson book of poetry and sing the poem to the tune of "The Yellow Rose of Texas."

But Wu, you're nearly old enough to have gotten a personal letter from Dickens!

I picture a Dicklike author with a gigantic head and a rather weak body.

Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.
