I'm admittedly only family with some of Asia's albums(mostly the early ones). However, I do know that scattered through their output are several prog/proggy tracks and was wondering if those who are familiar with this band could comment on what you think are their most prog oriented.

I can't help with all albums but on their debut there is the Prog intro of "Time Again" which gives way to achoir/vocoder.
Also "Cutting It Fine" is so Prog if only it went over for another five minutes.

I only know their original line-up albums (including some live ones), but my favourite song from them is perhaps also the proggiest one I know, which is "Parallel Worlds / Vortex / Deya", from Phoenix. The first part is a vocal totally pop piece of music, but it gives way to the other two parts, that are a wonderful passage of instrumental music that should appeal to several proggers. I only wish another instrumental part of another track from this album had also been a part of this "combo" song, which is "Sleeping Giant".

The most proggy tracks I can think of are on Aura and Arena (just listen to Day Before the War (with Aziz Ibrahim) or Free (with Ian Crichton, Steve Howe and Pat Thrall)

Also Silent Nation has its moments. Very nice keyboard and guitarwork on that one (Guthrie Govan!!). Although Silent Nation is rather tame and midtempo.

Anyway Free and Day before the War are amongst the best neo-prog/heavy prog songs I have ever heard.

Well, I know that track from Phoenix and I know the aforementioned earlier stuff. I was hoping someone on here could mention some prog stuff from the other later Wetton era albums or the Payne era.

Thank you. I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention.

My question exactly, Rednight. I always thought Asia was a supergroup sell-out. Even to this day, the ultra-pop "Heat of the Moment" loop-tapes in my brain ("somebody make it stop!")

Both songs have complex rhythms, plenty of soloiing, multiple sections, top-notch rock/fusion musicians.
Doesn't get anymore prog than this.
But people tend to focus on the first 3 albums a lot.

If you listen to this song, it's about as Progressive as later Yes.
