Trump is now apparently planning to implement a no-fly zone over Syria, allocating 90 days to the planning phase first.
As Russia will not accept such a zone and have to ingnore its existance, the USA will have to shoot down Russian jets ignoring it (which they will have to do to save face). Hm, interesting! At least Hitler was coy about his plans for the first five or six years. Donald Trump, on the other hand, does not fcuk around. When that Mayan end-of-the-world thing was supposed to happen a few years back, did someone say how long it was actually supposed to take? Edited by npjnpj - January 26 2017 at 13:11 |

I expect there will be taxes on other imported goods too soon, for example German cars. so much for free trade.
protectionism is hardly the answer to a financial hole. it will soon backfire. the USA may lose its position as leading economic nation because the other nations will react with similar taxes on Americana products. "If you don't want our exports we won't want yours either". the laughing third party will be the Chinese Edited by BaldJean - January 26 2017 at 14:42 |

From what I've read, the USA needs quite a number of Mexican imports (amongst those from other countries) for its own production chains. The US is not self-sufficient.
Is it feasible that only those imports are taxed that are not required for component uses? That might open a new can of worms. |

@BaldJean: Absolutely! Australia is already planning negotiations with China to step in for the USA to salvage TTP.

Just a minute. If Mexico is going to pay for the wall in the end anyway, couldn't they pay for it directly? Then they could employ the Mexican workers from both sides of the border to build it, and then, as it's legally theirs, pay them to also tear it down again. And then start again.

the concept sounds familiar to me, but why not? and to further strengthen the economy no-one will wash their own clothes anymore; everyone will wash the clothes of someone else and of course be paid for it. the gross national product will skyrocket!

The idea seems to have a lot of common with the Berlin airport.
Lots of wheels spinning and leading nowhere, and it won't stop until everyone's set for life. I like it. |

Oops! Although...the way they politicized and exploited the ever living sh*t out of the cop situation...it's not inaccurate to say they were licking cops too.
Yeah it's hilarious. The real nutty part of it all is to have the wall firmly patrolled, 24/7 along thousands of mile will require such a force....you wouldn't actually need the wall! As I'm sure you know the whole issue is bullsh*t anyway. Illegal immigration from Mexico has fallen dramatically, and more are now leaving the US than entering. There's also the fact a large number of Hispanic immigrants are coming from other countries and arrive through means other than the border. The while thing is a total waste of mental energy. Let's hope to god the GOP doesn't cave and try to make it a waste of real energy!

Well, now that the first week is almost over, and in the light of the newest development of the DTs having fired most of the diplomatic corps, practically immobilizing foreign relations in general, it seems clear where all this is leading.
It's out with politics and diplomacy, the USA is now going to be run like a business empire, Machiavelli-style, the only way Trump knows. Does anyone think that this has any chance of success, and what will the practcal consequences be? |

this is a very interesting article from the Washington Post:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-pressured-park-service-to-back-up-his-claims-about-inauguration-crowd/2017/01/26/12a38cb8-e3fc-11e6-ba11-63c4b4fb5a63_story.html?utm_term=.e650dcf21de2&wpisrc=nl_headlines&wpmm=1 I think we have to expect more of this in the future. somehow reminds me of Joseph Goebbels. a pocket-sized Goebbels so far, but he could grow. principiis obsta (resist the beginnings), as Ovid said |

Donald Trump and Theresa May are meeting at this very moment.
Coming out from behind the scenes Theresa May looks a bit flushed, out of breath, and has a bit of a funny walk. Edited by npjnpj - January 27 2017 at 11:33 |

I said Trump would be an Oligarchy, just run the government as a business vehicle but damn it...they were just words. Now that it's happening it's so much harder to accept. That said, more I think about it..more I realize Trump really isn't THAT far off the GOP mainstream. It was 10ish years ago, under a Republican President, they rejected moderate, reasonable immigration reform and wanted to build a fence. They've long used racial undertones, and want the US to be a corporate oligarchy. The build up of the police state, and even the world view Trump has, it reminds me of well...Bush and the neo cons lol They had this "us vs the world/do it alone" f**k you all attitude. I remember I kept reading that "Black and white" "us vs them" rigid allies and enemies. Remember the first time we saw that madman John Bolton was when Bush nominated him to represent us in the UN. Trump has basically just taken everything to the Nth degree.

In the ultimate example of "dogs chasing cars" it seems the GOP, despite 6 years of railing against it, still have no idea how they will proceed in handling Obamacare. http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/behind-closed-doors-republican-lawmakers-fret-about-how-to-repeal-obamacare/2017/01/27/deabdafa-e491-11e6-a547-5fb9411d332c_story.html?hpid=hp_hp-banner-main_goptapes-138pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.3729889720d8
Some are showing a real grasp of the many difficulties ahead leading me to think...where the hell have these brains been for 6 years?
Did they truly never expect to have the WH and Congress again? How has some plan not been at least discussed ages ago? The article mentions one admitting one plan would be tantamount to a tax increase on the middle class. If such a thing happens, I can imagine the onslaught of "Cut taxes for the top 2% and make the rest of you pay for it" Edited by JJLehto - January 27 2017 at 19:36 |

The meeting of Trump and May, (let's call it the "oh sh*t this is actually happening" meeting) provides for some great thought indeed.
Wonderful, short, article here. "The shared illusions of Brexit and Obamacare Repeal" Makes a superb point: Both May and Trump are boxed in by the preceding right wing populism that brought em to power. She voted stay but now has to handle the leave, while the ACA repeal and nativism have been forces in the US for years now. He wouldn't have gone anywhere without pledging to the former and he exploited the latter, but it was there. Now both have to deal with....difficult situations in trying to do something massive, quickly as possible to keep the pitchforks at bay while claiming nothing will happen all will be better in fact! Best line "The fact that Obamacare itself relies on several specific Republican, market-based ideas, now vilified, makes politically acceptable alternatives that much harder to devise." Like I said, a real "oh sh*t" moment that clearly neither movement was actually ready for. Thing is, poor May has to actually deal with it. Trump can sign a useless exec order and let Congress handle the details. If it fails down the road I'm sure he'll say "eh I got the ball rolling with my BOLD action! Blame the losers in Congress for messing it up" Edited by JJLehto - January 27 2017 at 20:10 |
