I'm trying to get an old 1980's Mini - Moog for something like $300.00.

If anybody knows a good site I would appreciate it.

have you checked out www.sonicstate.com ?

$300.00 seems pretty low, though...I haven't seen one under a grand in a long time (in one piece, that is).

The Studio Electronics SE-1 is pretty darn close to a minimoog, but even those tend to go for at least $400-500. 

Does it have to be hardware? There a a couple of really good software minimoogs out there, for less than half of what you're looking to pay. The Steinberg Model-E is a good minimoog simulation (and polyphonic too, unlike the original!). There's even a demo of it with Wakeman sounds.

my friend got a nice 1982 one for $300.00 He said it was a reasonable price.  Also, Thanks for the site. I think I might have found what I'm Looking for.

on the softsynth front, also check out Arturia's Mini-Moog V, their Moog Modular and they also do a wicked version of the Vangelis special - the Yamaha CS80. They've also just released a version of the Arp 2600. Pretty cool.

I've auditioned all their emulations and they are all superb if a trifle CPU-heavy.

those boys at arturia do a remarkable job. I
downloaded the demo of the CS80V and have
become entranced by it.
It's very CPU intensive and can come to a staggering
halt at times (and I have a 3 gigahertz machine with
a gig of ram) but the sounds are just amazing (just
floating through the presets). It seems to offer
everything you could possibly want even down to an
amazing ribbon controller which is incredibly
expressive. The only thing i would have reservations
about is it's ability for screaming leads but I'll take
GMedia's impOscar for that (awesome). The Moogs
are likewise superb, giving deep, thick bass lines
and pulses that are just progtastic.
Here's hoping their Arp 2600 is just as good - instant
JM Jarre here we come

The minimoog is wonderful. Not as impressed with the CS80V, but then I'm no musician.Not had any CPU related problems, although I have similar spec to Arcer-3.06 ghz P4 and 1024mb ddr mem. However I have an Audigy Plat' soundcard is that the diff?

Any other sites with synth demo downloads?

most companies offer demos or, at worst, some audio clips of the software. Try GMedia, Native Instruments - I can recommend their Xpress key version of B4 (hammond), FM7 (Yamaha DX7) and Pro53 (Sequential Circuits Prophet V) they're so cheap at about €30 each - and do check out kvr-vst.com for loads of free stuff. Not all the freeware synths there are good but there are some very much worth a download. For example Cheez Machine and Crazy Diamonds are excellent one trick ponies for producing Jarre-ish, Shine On string washes and they're free. kvr is an excellent site that will keep you updated on news about any piece of software you're interested in. Have a looksee.
