He says things they wanna hear.
They either dont care or dont realize hes utterly full of sh*t....

Its like Reagan, he was terrible for the working class, but they loved him. They loved him because of his tough guy rhetoric, social conservatism, and appeals to racism.
Trump talks about the jobs they've lost, the depressed wages (this part is legitimate) and he also appeals to their general conservatism and racism. He appeals to people who are angry merka is becoming "soft and sissy" and how we're being overrun by Mexicans and criminal blacks shooting cops, PC gone crazy.

you best believe Trump will be seeing Elizabeth Warren in 2020... and a much more fiercely liberal Democratic Party.. and one that will most likely be exactly what people want...

imagine believing this LOL

Blimey. I suppose this morning is the wrong time to say that I told you so, but..........

There are clear lessons here for each and every Western democracy. That is, the experience of metropolitan liberalism and globalisation running our countries must surely be coming to an end.

To repeat my comments after Brexit, these are certainly interesting times.

I will, though, resist the temptation to ask Micky to produce one last electoral map of the USA

Because Trump is at the same lowbrow fearful gun-toting against-choice level that a majority of that voting bloc still are?

On the other hand, the people that tipped it to him may genuinely think he'll be "a breath of fresh air", a "working class hero", an "agent of change".

Hi David. Yeah. I've heard some speak of how those with a standard Trump voter profile are tired of being insulted and patronized by elites. Both of your answers tend to veer in that direction, but like you I can't see any better answer myself. If one complains that elites think that they have all the answers, wanting to just shake things up is just an admission that one has even fewer answers. Yet they're seemingly not embarrassed by that. Aside from any of that I don't understand. I live in a very rural area of Oklahoma, but I mingle either with Native Americans (who are anti-Trump but don't vote) or with college types who tend to be left leaning as I am. I know Trump voters are a dime a dozen around here, but they're still a mystery to me.

Mmm... I guess I still have to be reminded that so much of the populace fails to vote their own interests.

Just the wrong kind of interesting.

Sorry Steve, but nothing will change, or at least not in the way that people are predicting (which is just another form of wishful thinking and idle daydreaming). No one ever has ever managed to read a clear message and no one has ever learnt anything from a clear lesson.

What we are going to see now (in fact in this thread it's already started) is a lot of people making excuses.
What?

Now, I understand why there had been so many threads/polls about Rush these last days: some people foresaw the Trumpening and started paying tribute to Canada in case they would need it...

My wife is really pissed now. The BBC is still running the US election special and has postponed the local breakfast news. Now she'll never know what the weather is going to be like in Southern England today so is having to take four different types of coat to wear...
