Or also the "you're not long for this world so you might as well go thinking you won something with a room giving you a standing ovation" award

I don't believe any lyricist should be awarded with the Nobel.
But the one that gets closer to that status is precisely Dylan.
I'm more worried for the precedent, next year may be Cat Stevens or Sir Elton John and that would worry me even more. |
bbut Sir Elton John doesent write lyrics, he compose, Bernie Taupin on the other hand, write lyrics.

He does not have to think he won, he did win it. You cannot change that. All you can do is make snarky comments which really have no bearing on a done deal.

Makes no sense. You've always despised Dylan, man, and this award is like 'the ultimate' slap in the face for you. Just be honest and admit it.

^Please read well Timothy. Dean was making a sort of definition of what a Lifetime Achievement award is and I followed suit.

Today is day #11,389 in a row without listening to Dylan and he's from my home state. Why would I listen to that when there's so much fine music out there? (no offense intended to those who love the guy though)

^We're human beings, therefore we're biased. But we also have opinions on what literature is and isn't.
I don't like Dylan's music at all but you won't see me complaining if he won a (another?) Grammy. That's the award for what he does.

On the other hand, not all Nobel Prizes for Literature are great. For example, I just saw that the first laureate was a French writer... That I've never heard/read of before!

Just be honest and admit it. | Sorry to intrude but, can't one disagree with the award? |
Looks more like bias against than disagreement for me. |
What? So, not liking the music of Bob Dylan disqualifies me from disagreeing with the notion of awarding prizes for Literature to song lyrics? If they'd granted the award to a lyricist/songwriter liked I'd still disagree with it. It's no secret that I don't like the music of Bob Dylan, and I don't like Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon or Van Morison either, however I've not criticised Dylan as an artist here, and nor would I - the only negative remark I have made was in regard to his "novel" (which I now understand is, and I quote, "an experimental prose poetry collection by Bob Dylan, written in 1965 and 1966. It employs stream of consciousness writing, somewhat in the style of Jack Kerouac, William S. Burroughs, and Allen Ginsberg" {Guess what, I don't like those guys' writing much either and none of them would ever win a Nobel Literature prize}), but I'll never begrudge him any awards and accolades he receives or say that he does not deserve them, even if he had won the Pritzker Architecture prize for his garden shed. My beef here is with the Nobel committee, not Robert Zimmerframe esq., just as if the Recording Academy awarded a Grammy to Richard Burton my complaint would be against those awarding the prize, not those receiving it.
HOWEVER. What gives you the right to make this personal? f**k knows what I've ever done to offend you, because I certainly don't know and as far as I recall we've never exchanged words or opinions in all the time I've been here.

Of course not, we all mentioned
a) Winston Churchill
"for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values".
Oratory? That's the lamest excuse. At least if used in the Spanish sense of the world oratoria (Mastery on speech).
b) Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn: This was pure politics, read the book and has nothing special, although I cheered him for political reasons, after reading The Gulag Archipelago, was dissapointed and even more after reading "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich".

I believe you get the point.
Could well said Simon & Garfunkel or Donovan, it's only an example.

Until it's given to someone you think deserves a Lifetime Achievement award (which this award wasn't at all really). I realize you'd still think it a silly award (as do I, frankly), but it's at its most silly when given for the reasons you elucidate. "Honorary" in the worst way. But Bob Dylan has won countless Grammys (his profession's Oscar) and a huge amount of other honors from Halls of Fame to Medals of Honor worldwide.

^No I wouldn't give goat poop to any artist though some might find excellent fertilizing uses.
