Topic: help ID this canterbury/fusion song Posted: August 30 2016 at 11:49
Hey, the music in this TV show clip sounds familiar but I can't place it. My first thought is National Health, but it's not from their first two albums (the only ones I own). Anybody recognize it?
thanks

Hmmmmm! I seriously don't know. I'm sure I have already heard it. My first thought was National Health, as well, but I don't recall that moment from the first two. Maybe D.S. Al Coda ? I would also check Gilgamesh. When the Steve (33) guy starts talking, I think I can hear some background vocals, which remind me of Hatfield and the North very much, especially from The Rotters Club-era. They are really Richard Sinclair-y, in my opinion. Theoretically, this could also be HatN's debut, but that one is less technical and I think I would remember if there was such moment there. It's really a shame I don't know, this is totally what I'm into and I thought I know a bit about the Canterbury scene. EDIT: Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiit, I just went through HatN's debut (which at one point I was sure that one came from), but it's not there. Also, tick out The Rotters Club, if I remember correctly, there were no harmony vocals there, just Richard. I was also thinking Matching Mole for a sec, but their sound was different. Gilgamesh is still a valid option.

Those vocals sound like the Northettes. The first bit of music did sound like Egg or Hatfield a bit. This may be weird to say on a prog site but I think it's really just game show music from the 1970s or an imitation of it.

Its hard to say, but certainly is from the canterbury scene. I heard all bands from the canterbury,at least the bands in the prog archives, but i dont remember this part in any of them. I would also like to know.

Not any Canterbury I recognise, but I understand why the question is posed. If it's not made for TV, it could be more contemporary. For instance, I always found Stereolab close to the Canterbury sound at certain points (but I don't think its them either).

I'll see if I can find any info...
I didn't find that sounded like the Northettes (not nearly iiritating enough to be )... it sounds like a mid-70's KB/synth, though.

I'm also a Canterbury prog fan and I don't recognize it.........I'm thinking it was written and played for that tv show by studio musicians and it's not from a known Canterbury group.
Hmmm,,,,,,could it be from one of Bruford's early Canterbury albums...? I haven't played those for a while.
