From your description, it looks to me like this may be more of a general blog than specifically a Prog Blog. If this Blog does not have a Prog focus, then it will be moved -- like with the a day in the life of a geekproger blog you started before, which was similar in scope to your deep thinking topic.

This thread seems to me something that zigzags around the borderline between proggycock and poppycock. My slightly tentative answer is YES.

and so it goes on PA aka Porn Armadillos, where most facts and iterations can be traced back to a slender fish. |

Hi there geekfreak Before this turns into an endless tirade of nonsense I'd like to point out one thing. I remember you trying to do this kind of thread from before with the same kind of outcome. The thing is, most members on here find it almost impossible to decipher what you write and perhaps more importantly what you mean by it. For all we know you could be onto something wildly interesting, but the fact of the matter still remains; we simply don't understand you. |

I really wanted to give this blog a chance, but I would consider merging it with "a day in the life of a geekproger" considering how it's progressed. Aside from writing in a readily comprehensible way, there is also the issue of content.
Next time if you try a topic in this forum, since I do think you should try again, I suggest that you explain what aspect/ subject of Prog you will be talking about. I would keep it more narrowly focused, as it's not really for blogs that just talk about everything and anything. It's really more about exploring certain areas of Prog. Instead of stream of consciousness stuff, have a plan. A good Prog blog is focused and the opening post normally acts in the same way as an introduction to an essay. We have had great ones that explored the progressive music scenes in particular countries, ones on particular styles of Prog and on particular artists. I think you like melodic prog and have been listening to it since I was in diapers (there's no shame in adult diapers), so for instance, maybe do a history of Melodic Prog. Because you've shown an interest in metaphysics and philosophy, you could do "Religious Themes in Prog", "Philosophising in Prog", or "Prog's Deepest Thinkers". "Prog's Deepest Thinkers" alternatively could be called "WTF?" where the F stand for Fripp -- considering that a lot of people thought WTF? with your last blog, it would be a pretty cool title for a new one in my opinion. You could do one about the madness of Prog, or one like "The Language of Prog: A Beginner's Guide to Understanding Progressive Music". The possibilities for a prog subject are endless, and time to wrap up this post as it also seems endless. Edited by Logan - August 07 2016 at 12:27 |

Great Scott! You should do one yourself Greg...I mean you are literally boiling over with saucy ideas. (I am not being sarcastic btw )
I'd certainly read it. |

Thanks David, but I think I'd lack the focus to take on such a task at this time. I'm quite deep in work at the moment.
I do like the idea of a "What the Fripp?" blog, if it hasn't been done already. And I would like to do one on "Madness in Prog" featuring the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, but it wouldn't seem right without having Madness in PA (not that I'm suggesting Madness should be). But you gave me a saucy Jack of an idea (Spinal Tap reference): Jack the Ripper's influence on Prog. Univers Zero, 'nuff said. Making a good Prog blog is a lot of work, and it would require much research, and it is not something I would take lightly. It's a task that, not too sound sexist or ageist, separates the men from the boys, and the true geeks from the just freaks. |

That sounds very interesting to say the least as I love both Madness and those mad Belgians. I wouldn't think you'd do anything other than pull out all the stops and research your heart out just to double-check some obscure cereal fact pertaining to a bass player that once felt invigorated during a particularly inspired shower (in cornflakes)....but as you said yourself: that is indeed hard work and needs a lot of attention if it is to become something that rivals one's initial idea.
Me also thinks that you sometimes are a little too demanding of yourself, but that is for another chit-chat altogether (I'm thinking over a beer in whatever city perchance) |
