That'd be a bummer, they were never my favorite but I like all of their albums. One can only hope that Daniel will do some even better stuff going forward! He's on my favorite Flower Kings Song - The Truth Will Set You Free. I also think he's a perfect 5th member for Transatlantic with all of his talents. Would love to see him do some other collaborations.

I have just started following Pain of Salvation, but I understand their new album will be their last. Too bad.

^ yep I've listened to them a bit on Amazon Prime. Good band.
For me Par Lindh Project is the best band to come from Sweden. Not a fan of The Flower Kings apart from maybe the last couple. I like recent Opeth albums and also starting to enjoy Katatonia as well. That's probably about it really. |

Has no one mentioned my favorite band from Sweden? SEVENTH WONDER is currently working on their soon to be released (at least we hope for 2017) fifth studio album. Last year the dvd/cd "Welcome to Atlanta 2014; Welcome to Mercy Falls" was released, which included their first day at ProgPowerUSA performing the entire Mercy Falls album plus a second appearance the next day which closed with an amazing acoustic medley sung by all five musicians. https://youtu.be/TANcV7StP3s

No one has mentioned Meshuggah yet ?
![]() Up there with Trettioariga Kriget, Anglagard, Anekdoten and Landberk. But there's so many more great bands from Sweden. Norway is giving us Proggers some real treats as well. |

I like those newer Swedish prog groups, but the older ones really move me more, especially Samla Mammas Manna, Ragnarök, Fläsker Brinner, Bo Hansson. And from the more recent groups, my favorite is Klotet, which is much more based on Scandinavian jazz & folk tingled '70s prog rock than Anglagard, Beardfish etc.

Surprised no-one's mentioned Kaipa yet. They've taken a while to grow on me, but after a number of years I have suddenly discovered a real appreciation for them. I only have 2 albums so far, but hoping to get some more soon.

On the topic of Archimedes Badkar, ex-member Per Tjernberg has released some interesting music in recent years. I'd recommend checking out his album Music is my Salvation, really not prog but lovely, hard-to-categorise music that won't scare your granny but is actually full of substance and detail.

I don't think Isildur's Bane was mentioned yet. Certainly a band that went through a lot of development from symph to chamber prog to some quite unclassifiable stuff, including a collaboration with a group of free improvisers. I think their 1992 album Voyage: A Trip to Elsewhere is a bit of a masterpiece.

How about that time the Swedish Chef collaborated with Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem on their classic prog epic, Tales From Topographic Kitchens and other Cutlery?

Sweden has cultivated quite a few psychedelic bands lately. Some of em have been mentioned earlier in this thread, but definitely not all.
Here are some tasty bits for ya complete with knækbrød and poor Pripps beer: Hooffoot: Our Solar System: Les Big Byrd: Lejonsläktet: Edited by Guldbamsen - August 03 2016 at 05:08 |
