The topic here is songs that you like a lot, but there's one really annoying aspect to them that keeps them from being "perfect".

Examples:
- In Voivod's cover of "Astronomy Domine", Snake gets the words wrong in a couple places: "Oberon, Miranda and Titania" becomes "Oberon, there on the run, Titanian", and "Stairways scare, Dan Dare, who's there" becomes "Stairways scared and death rules there".
- In Procol Harum's "Conquistador", Gary Brooker pronounces the title wrong (Con-KWIS-ta-dor as opposed to Con-KEES-ta-dor).
- Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing": just as it really starts to get into gear, it fades out!  It feels like half a song.

I could really do without the half minute of clock noises at the beginning of "Time".

Voivod's lyrics actually make more sense. LOL

hard question.... if something really annoyed me... I wouldn't like it. It isn't like there isn't a great mass of music I do love that doesn't annoy me in the least.

Before the CD reissue of Piper in the '90s, nobody knew what the lyrics really were. Also, the members of Voivod speak French as their first language so they just wrote down what they thought they heard.

RE: 'Little Wing'. There are lots of songs that fade out just as they're gettin' good. Compare Gilmour's solo at the end of "Comfortably Numb" on The Wall compared to any live version.

- The very end of TD's Force Majeure track (completely out of place IHMO)
- The narration in Amon Düül II's Deutsch Nepal (ruins the ambiance)
- Most spoken interludes in 70-80's Hawkwind studio / live albums
- The "prehistoric cavern" man voice in Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells Part 2

I don't mind the clocks unless I'm trying to drift off to sleep, then they are most unwanted...

I was thinking the same thing. Other than songs I like ending too soon (particularly when a lead fades out just when it heats up), I wouldn't really like a song all that much if I thought it was flawed.

Yeah, I probably should have mentioned that I'm fully aware English isn't their first language - been a fan of theirs for ages, and Nothingface is as near to perfect as I could hope for an album to be.  Still, to my ears.... kinda jarring.

It doesn't matter if they spoke English as a second language, "Oberon, Miranda and Titania" are moons of Uranus, and are not derived from English words. They were obviously unaware of both Astronomy and Shakespeare. Miranda and Titania come from Latin roots and Oberon is originally...French.Shocked

A couple of things spring to mind -

1) Rush's "Different String" fades out too early just as the guitar solo is getting really interesting
2) Transatlantic getting the words of "And You and I" and "Nights In White Satin" wrong on the Kaleidoscope bonus CD ("Letters are written" instead of "Letter's I've written").

I adore The Revealing Science of God but the squeaky dog toy noises make me a bit crazy.

I'm seeing Yes Wednesday night in Ohio, when they will be playing sides 1 and 4 of TFTO. If they choose not to replicate the squeaky dog toy that will be just fine with me.

I can be alone on this one but the final guitar solo on Siberian Khatru annoys me. He plays one nice sentence at 8:27 and one like it later but the rest is IMHO poor compared to what he's done at other solos.

It annoys me that Floyd do not recognise Atom Heart Mother's splendour. Nothing wrong with the tune itself though.

The only thing I can think of where I'd like a tune but something would annoy me would be fade-outs when something really good is happening.  There are a couple good examples above, especially Hendrix' "Little Wing".

A lot of the stuff mentioned is the sort of stuff I couldn't care less about--changed lyrics, weird pronunciations, etc.

Just curious what you consider "squeaky dog toy noises" in that tune.

The only one I can think of is Gentle Giant's "An Inmates Lullaby", the xylophone can get a bit annoying.

if something annoys me about a song it is extremely unlikely that I will like it. and it is very hard to annoy me at all. maybe I could name Nektar's "Remember the Future"; I consider the title chorus to be a bit weak. but it would be saying too much to call it "annoying"

The last bit in Bayreuth Return scares the hell out of me. Every time.
