Clearlight - Clearlight Symphony. Another one I've forgotten about. That mixture of Girls Who Grow Plump-era Caravan Canterbury sound with some symphonic elements, electronic music gives really neat results. Very refreshing and quite unique.
Between - And the Waters Opened. This is one of those albums that I did not really enjoy at first listen, highly likely not because there was something wrong with the music, but I just wasn't in the mood. This is a really nice album with its mixture of spacey electronic and exotic-sounding influences. Not anything to write home about, but pretty enjoyable, for me. Ash Ra Tempel - Le Berceau De Cristal. This is where it's all at for me. As I said yestarday, I think, the sonic landscapes crafted by Manuel Gottsching are the most appealing to me personally. He can just make things click! And this one was no exception. It sounded a bit like Inventions or New Age of Earth at times but with some elements that Klaus Schulze's solo works often have. And that Farfisa sound! That's something I adore. Really, such a great album! Pink Floyd - A Saucerful Of Secrets. Often dismissed by Floyd fans as inconsistent, but this era of Pink Floyd is fascinating. They experimented with a similar sound that some krautrock bands seem to have picked up in the 70's (Amon Duul II being the most obvious one). Even the singy-songy songs go beyond being simple with the omnipresent dark, cosmic quality. Hearing "Celestial Voices" is always a blessing, although I like the Pompeii version more. Klaus Schulze - Timewind. Continuing my Klaus Schulze listenings with Timewind! In comparison with the previous releases, this one comes across as the most ambient, calming, and the smoothest. Quite soporific at times, yet very rewarding. One of my favorite albums of pure ambient by far. |

John G. Perry - Sunset Wading. I haven't got around to checking out this album for a while now and as I like to start my day with Canterbury or Zeuhl, I thought this album is something I often see a lot of love for. It was a pretty nice listening experience. I liked the touches of world music to this sort of dry jazz-rock. Recommended!
Klaus Schulze - Moondawn. Continuing my Klaus Schulze listenings with Moondawn! To be honest, this is my least favorite album from Schulze by far. I don't think it has the significance or originality that his other works have. However, the addition of drums definitely helps it a bit. Silver Apples - Silver Apples. Another group which I had wanted to check out for a long time, but didn't until today. I really like this. The ideas seem fresh, the band extremely vigorous and creative - it just inexplicably clicks! As far as I am concerned, Silver Apples are one of the pioneers of electronic music, right? Lard Free - I'm Around About Midnight. Pure experimentation and play with tonal options and sound. It sits somewhere in between avant-rock and ambient. Not as great as their debut album in my opinion, it does not have anything that would stand out (like a vibraphone on their first release), but is very enjoyable nonetheless. |

Funny you mention this, mate! I randomly thought of this album the other day and instantly thought of you and the others with the constant Canterbury related mentions on this thread lately: http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=5217 It's listed on the site as a Zeuhl album (perhaps because it features some future members of Magma), but the style of the band was quite similar to Egg and the Soft Machine. The CD is listed as being released in 1994, but it's actually a compilation of recordings from the early Seventies of the group, who never recorded a proper studio album. So all we've got left is a handful of bootleg-like recordings, some of which sound great, others that sould like they were recorded in a toilet! I've got a mini LP version of this one that adds a few additional recordings, and I honestly think it's a great collection. Of course, you'll have to decide if you have the patience to listen to the varying sound quality, but I think some of it is up on Youtube. Here's the few couple of tracks at least: See how you go! My personal opinion is that it's a bit of a lost treasure! |

Ha, now that's the `proggy' in you talking, Sam! Remember, those sort of albums are not aimed at us sort of listeners! But for sure there's definitely parts where the second half goes into an instrumental section, and sure enough the `proggy' in me thinks `Hmmm, they should do that more often....' Glad you dug `Pure'....how freaking good is that solo on `Indigo'? You know, I honestly feel on that album Barrett and Co do a better version of the heavier modern prog than Porcupine Tree did, and there was a bit of talk when `Pure' came out that it was clearly modelled on the heavy-era PTree discs.... How did you go with `Passion'? Edited by Aussie-Byrd-Brother - July 24 2016 at 01:21 |

No problem, Tymon, I hope you dig it! Pretty sure you will, as long as the sound quality doesn't bug you too much. I think of it is as a bit of tragic missed opportunity, but what we have left with is still pretty nice.
****** Gary, did you get that Witches of God `They Came to Kill' album? I think it's only available on a CD and LP combo set. I heard some of it on Youtube, I was astonished how much it sounded like a kick-ass version of the Bridgit Wishart-era of Hawkwind, the singer even sounded like her! (yes I actually checked to see if it was her ) I'm long overdue to make a Kozmik Artifactz order....Sadly both February and late July/early August are the absolute worst for me bill-wise, so I need to ease up a little! ^ No, I haven't but I'll definitely look into it.
BTW...Today was my first listen to the live Radio Moscow and it sounded really good. If I had known they were playing in L.A. back then I would have gone to see them for sure.

^ I'm listening to it now and I'll probably order it through Bandcamp ($20 for vinyl + CD).
Turns out they're an L.A. band. Maybe I can catch them live sometime.

I listened to it again this morning and it has a good sound for being live. The guitar is excellent through out and it's easy to see that Parker Griggs was a fan of Cream, Blue Cheer and Led Zeppelin.
