Walter Wegmuller - Tarot. This is really great! It is pretty similar to Ash Ra Tempel and The Cosmic Jokers, but it has a higher musical diversity. However, it does not seem inconsistent. It's incredibly tight and focused. Great! And it also has that "Master Of The Ceremony"-like feel to it due to spoken word by Walter himself!
Univers Zero - Heresie. This is my favorite album from Univers Zero and also the first one that I've listened to. It really captures the spirit of what the band was and what made it so special. "Jack the Ripper" is an absolute ripper! Dark, unsettling, disturbing, yet, unlike Comus or other folk outfits, intellectual-sounding and classy. Really love this album! Pyramid - Pyramid. This is another one of those 90's recordings from the UK that were supposed to make people think they were recorded in the 70's, in Germany etc. It's technically just one piece a 33-minute epic called "Dawn Deffender". I really don't give a dang when this was produced - it's absolutely phenomenal! Various segments give it a feel of constant movement. And that combined with its cosmic quality fructifies in pure magic! Genesis - Foxtrot. Out of the most commercially successful prog bands (Yes, ELP, Jethro Tull etc.), excluding Camel, Genesis is my favorite (along with ELP). And Foxtrot is highly likely my favorite release from the band. It's incredibly well-composed and well-played. The pieces have so much emotion in them, without sacrificing the theatrical quality and musical complexity. You've heard enough about this one already. It's great! Cosmic Circus Music - Sternenmaskerade. This is one of the greatest discoveries I've made in the last weeks! The band's sound is quite reminiscent of Ash Ra Tempel, Agitation Free, and the Cosmic Jokers. Lengthy, psychedelic, krauty jams, striking cosmic soundscapes, beautiful work of instruments - this is what this is all about. It's just one 45-minute track that takes you into outer space without a comeback to earth. And you can excuse the poor recording quality - the music is outstanding. Moving Gelatine Plates - The World Of Genius Hans. MGP is one of my favorite French bands (along with Magma and Etron Fou Leloublan). This album is pure Canterburian magic. Complex arrangements, moody jazz workouts, and splendid musicianship - these are just a few of the elements that make MGP's music so wonderful! You - Electric Day. FINALLY FOUND THIS BAND! With that sort of name, it's hard to look for them online. And I've found it! ![]() ![]() ![]() Egg - The Metronomical Society. This is a great collection of Egg's rare live recordings. It has a great booklet to it, too! Egg being my favorite band of all time, I often come back to this one and am always amazed by how incredible and precise they sounded live! It must've been incredibly hard to learn those difficult, intricate, elaborate numbers! Recommended to Canterbury fans! + I am going to see TORTOISE tonight! I'm really excited about that! See you in nine days, PA! I'm going on holidays (not to Cambodia ![]() P.S. Sorry for that long-@$$ post. ![]() Edited by ALotOfBottle - July 09 2016 at 12:22 |

Exactly, very subtle and cool beats (without becoming obnoxious or dancy!). If I recall, the longer fifth track was especially good as well, although I don't recall a poor second on the entire disc. Last night's choices (will post back in here later this afternoon with today's selections! [LOL ): Spring – s/t Kansas – Point of Know Return Pendragon – Passion Karnataka – Secrets of Angels Karfagen – 7 Touchstone – Ocean of Time Magenta – The Twenty Seven Club The Mute Gods – Do Nothing til You Hear from Me Mystery – Delusion Rain Quantum Fantay - Dancing in Limbo Kl(aus) – s/t Jack Hertz – Antarctica |

I think that's the exact same album I have but on a recent reissue called `Wiesbaden 1973' that extends it to a a 78-odd minute CD. I ended up giving it a 5 star review, it's the sort of Krautrock album I can endlessly listen to. It was a blind buy I simply took a chance on and hoped for the best, turned out it was very special! ![]() |

Yes, I've been talking about them with Sam a bit recently! Some of the late 70's/early 80's Tangerine Dream elements are pretty blatant recreations, but there's also some great original ideas emerging throughout the disc as well! I'll happily give their album a good write-up if you guys decide they belong on the site! ![]() |

MGP - The World of Genius Hans + Moving (1980): I can't stand most of the french bands, but this band really got me, 'The World of Genius Hans' is an outstanding work with a notably Canterbury Sound. Moving (1980) is an almost pop-rock album, nothing really notable from there.
Caravan - Caravan The Soft Machine - The Soft Machine: A forgotten album for almost three years... really, it sounded fresh just like the first time. The Soft Machine - Volume Two: It just didn't click for me... Soft Machine - Third Soft Machine - Fourth |
