Yep, I started off in Canterbury, lazed in the sun, headed to deep space, landed back in Italy and then chilled in my crib!
![]() This is this last one, an ambient/electronic collaboration with very subtle grooves, I think it's superb. I have several albums from both Lorenzo Montana and Mick Chillage, they always put out very thoughtful and intelligent electric/ambient albums that are respectful of the old masters but sound very contemporary. So I figured an album between the two should be amazing, and it was simply wonderful. The longer pieces are especially beautiful. https://carpesonum.bandcamp.com/album/deviazoni-cosmiche I have been hanging to spin `The Delicate Forever' again. I'm back on some late night finishes again next week, I think a nice play of that album on the 11pm drive home would be perfect. Edited by Aussie-Byrd-Brother - July 08 2016 at 03:34 |

Yeah, give the first track of that album a spin and see what you think, I was sucked in pretty quickly and because of driving home in busier traffic today I got to spin the whole album! Glad to say it's consistently good the whole way.
Ha, nowadays I ALWAYS listen to Berlin school/electronic/ambient music on the way home, especially on those very late shifts! It really calms me down. It's impossible to get caught speeding when listening to that sort of music as well, it doesn't encouraghe you to drive faster like metal or something! ![]() No, I haven't been there the whole time either, but many of us have really made it a bit of a home here. Always nice to see what everyone's listening to. |

"Mr. Canterbury" ![]() If you've been reading my "What albums did you..." lists recently, Canterbury, as much as it is my favorite sub-genre, has been substituted for krautrock, with which I've got a sizzling, passionate love affair, at the moment. ![]() "One of us, one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us..." |

Association P.C. - Sun Rotation. It's one of those great discoveries I've made, I'm really proud of. The band's second offering is equally great to their outstanding debut. This one is a lot more electronic, at times even krauty, but it definitely is a straight-up jazz-fusion album with free-jazz influences. It's full of beautiful Rhodes, great guitars, and funky grooves.
Wishbone Ash - Argus. It's one of my favorite albums from the heavier side of prog rock. Is it that heavy? Probably not. I really enjoy the romantic, even poetic quality with its sort of ancient, Roman, pre-medieval concept of war. Great album! Agitation Free - Malesch. I like Agitation Free, I really do, but today has not been such a great day for me personally and it just did not seem to "spark" like two of the previous albums. It's a good one, though. Popol Vuh - In Der Garten Pharaos. Wonderful ambient music. Popol Vuh always saved their compositions from sounding simple, uninteresting, and repetative. It always has something that puts it above ordinary cosmic music. And this album is a perfect representation of that. Steamhammer - Speech. Steamhammer were one of my favorite prog rock bands, before I started listening to prog rock. I really appreciated their bluesy material, which I still consider top shelf. However, this one is drastically different from their previous, blues-fueled releases. It cannot be put into a sub-genre. It's definitely close to prog rock. It's dark, mysterious, dynamic, and varied. This is highly recommended! Embryo - Rocksession. Based on "someone's" recommendation, I expected this to be a good representant of cosmic krautrock. And Rocksession was something much different. It's a very good albums with an exotic sound that fuses jazz-rock with world music. Nice! Ashra - New Age Of Earth. The recipie to really enjoy this album is to sit by the lake. I did so, just reading the book. The sun was going down slowly and Manuel Gottsching's beautiful, striking soundscapes accompanied this fantastic experience. This is some extremely good music! Pachyderm - Two Weeks Of Spring. Pachyderm are a modern Canadian band aiming at that authentic, krautrock sound. Their style is at times similar to Ash Ra Tempel, as well as Gila. They are conservative with the use of electronics, instead they rely greatly on vocals and acoustic guitars. They have some really nice moments, although I skipped a few places. This was my day. Man, after all, it feels krautrock is a pretty small sub-genre. I've been listening to it intensely for the last month probably and I feel like I've ran out of things to listen to and I simply don't enjoy many bands, because of searching for that non-existant "ideal sound" of mine. I bet I'm wrong, but it feels that way. I've asked for some recommendations as to non-fully-electronic "kosmische musik" on one of the groups on Facebook and out of about 40 suggestions, only two or three were something new. I feel like cutting down on listening might help me in enjoying the music more. Also, I'm going to see Tortoise live tomorrow. ![]() |

Anyone else listed to `The Mute Gods - Do Nothing Til You Hear From Me' at this point? Not very sold on this one. Very straightforward rock songs with the slightest of proggy frills, sounding a little like Steven Wilson’s music if he was happy to settle for an indie/rock sound (it’s even more straightforward than his work with `Blackfield’). Beggs has a good voice, but there’s something...crushingly dull about the disc, I can't work what it is? It's very melodic and easy to listen to on a surface level, but after 20 minutes I was thinking `Yeah, OK, I get it...time to move on to something interesting’. It’s like a much less satisfying version of the Sound of Contact album `Dimensionaut’, which still provided more proggy moments. Not exactly having `buyers regret’ as such, but certainly ready to banish to the back of the shelf already. Perhaps, at best, it might become a background listen at work eventually.
