You have Total Wine out there? Do you feel like an a****le when you shop there? I can't get past the feeling I'm killing the little guys by going there....so I rarely do Bourbon ales....oof....good stuff but they just kill me...I"ve had to throw in the towel and admit my liver is too weak to handle them

Little guys? We don't have much in the way of little guys here in Virginia Jim. You get your beers at the large corporate Grocery stores, the neighborhood corporate convience stores like 7-11, or do the Total Wine. I spread the wealth and do all 3 I suppose. yeah.. Bourbon Ales are not for the weak I suppose. Of liver or constitutions/metabolisms. They hit hard..

You don't have Mom and Pop liquor stores?
I suppose we still have them because Groceries can't sell here...except 3.2. We still have tons of little neighborhood liquor stores than look like they are straight out of a 40s movie....I love shopping in there and talking to the old guys

yeah... we don't have those. I agree with your sentiments however. We practice that religiously when it comes to eating out. Rarely if ever eat at chain restaurants.. mom and pop local restaurants is where it is at. If we had them here I'd sure support them

Cygnus X-1 A feisty Porter named after a RUSH song.....how could I resist? I like it a lot. Caught a good buzz on just two pints.

We used to have quite a few; a convenient place for basic groceries, late night booze, food and ciggie emergencies, and the occasional meat & cheese sub. Only a handful still exist. As you say, they have the old-school feel (and in SF, beautiful Italian tile work adorning the outside). They are generally overpriced and often don't have one's preference but they will be sorely missed when gone, I'm sure.

^ Yeah, they are overpriced compared to the big dogs....but I think its cool that some people will pay higher prices to get a little culture and mood with their goods. I hope they never completely vanish. Everything about the modern retail experience is so soulless and uninteresting...same chains, same cookie cutter storefronts no matter where you are.

Doing my duty and supporting local businesses..... A cross between a Porter and a Stout.....lots of chocolate and coffee notes but a bit more carbonated than I'd like. Still, no one here is complaining as a nice buzz has dropped

We had a local beer fest at out fair grounds in town and over 40 micro brew vendors showed up....too many beers to recall but one I really liked was a vanilla blueberry porter that one of the groups made just for the event.

happy that we found, after a temporary absence, this wonderful brew at the local H.T. enjoying one right now as a matter of fact! These things rule....

New Belgium is pretty widely distributed and makes consistently good beers in my experience. Haven't tried them all of course.

Snapshot has a nice tart citrusy taste and Citradelic by New Belgium is also good. They have several' FOLLY 12 PACKS' out right now so time to pick up a couple to sample all the different flavors.

Blew my back out yesterday in yardwork and relieving the pain today with Great Lakes Brewing Co.. One of my favorite brewers. Had not tried this one, but thought appropriate for PA with a turntable on the cover, Turntable Pils. A very nice pilsner for hot summer days on the deck.
