So the removal of my Meddle review. I'm curious and I'd like an explanation. Complains? An admin decision? Just let me know.

I don't know any details, though I could see how such a review would not fit guidelines. I just got back from what should have been a 30 minute trip with my kids where my car broke down on the remote highway, lucky for me the two truck driver got there fast, but for the curious and if you didn't save it, I found it in google's cache:
Meddle Review Very experimental. Wonder if I can paste it here while keeping the formatting. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . . . Ҧ ҧ . Ҧ ҧ . Thanks man. Yeah it is absolutely bonkers, which was exactly the point.
That said, admin have been very lenient and patient with my current psychosis, and I appreciate it. |

Can these characters can form a coherent review by being put in some order? That would be neat-o.

^ It's the scribbles of a madman on notepaper while Meddle plays. So no not really.

IMHO the review should stand. I can't think of a better way to describe Meddle than the way you have. |

^ As a blues, I'd represented it with a single small frowny face but removed it as it was barely discernible.
That means a lot, Bob, thanks. Edited by Atavachron - June 04 2016 at 16:00 |

nitpicky I know. What is this business of people numbering their reviews?

I hate the reviews that rate an album low not because it's bad but because it's not prog. I'm seeing things like "if you're looking for a progressive rock album, you'll be disappointed cause this one is pure AOR" etc.

^I moved your post.
Seems a little odd posting in a thread called ‘I really like your review’ and then starting out with ‘I hate’ I do agree with your point though. Rating anything based on how prog it is is futile. By that definition Henry Cow should be the most celebrated artist on PA. |

Agreed. I only rate albums on their own merit. It's not an AOR album's fault it got lumped on this site due to the entire discography policy. I will tend to round down if it's not prog though but not always. But whatever. There are 1 star albums on this site that i love such as the Yes Remix album. Even if everyone hates it doesn't mean it makes me love it less!

totally agree, though as Silly Puppy said, I might drop it a half point based on perceived lack of prog credentials, but the whole half star thing (!?) is subjective and I treat it like a collaborator's prerogative based on how I feel. It's something I do to make me feel like IO have some control, like buying too much of a scarce item (which I don't tend to do)

I enjoy writing "outside the box" too, so maybe it's time for a tetrahedral album review, just as Logan suggested.

I don't really care if an album classifies as prog or not, and it surely doesn't affect my judgements. The best music often combines many different style elements.

I have a proposition. How about a "please delete my rating thread" for those who want to revisit albums they've rated and leave a review so it can appear in new/on the front page

Whilst I hold to the view that value judgments in art are in the end largely subjective, there still exists in my mind a distinction between what is good and bad, and what I enjoy and don't enjoy. There is plenty of music (and writing, etc) of which I can recognise the innovative quality / technical merit / importance within the development of the artform, that I don't enjoy at all. Equally there is plenty of stuff that I think is little more than trash that I dig the hell out of. |
