Robert Fripp's League of Gentlemen is a highly enjoyable, fresh and original album that I'd put above at least half of King Crimson's studio albums.

I never loved The Yes Album and can no longer stomach much of it.
I have never been able to make it through Larks Tongues in Aspic.
I love female vocalists—especially when they’re operatic.
I feel that here are prejudices against women in prog world.
I adore Focus. Nova, too! (Akkerman and Rustici are both amazing)
I adore Frank Zappa, but I don’t like his songs much.
I love the work of Brian Eno, Robin Guthrie, and Prince.
The only band that has never let me down is Everything But the Girl
I would be content if the only music on earth were Progressive Electronic.
I wish there was more of the light, silly, upbeat “Canterbury spirit” in prog.
I never met an instrument I didn’t like—except for the SynthAxe and the saxophone.
I have loved everything Trevor Horn touched.
I think Ryuichi Sakamoto is one of the greatest humans to have ever walked the planet.
I think Matthew Parmenter a far superior singer, performer than Peter Hammill
I wish all albums were independently categorized by sub-genre instead of one category per artist
I loved George Michael’s music (and voice).
I love Jon Anderson lyrics! (In fact, they’re the only ones that make sense to me!)
I am forever embarrassed by how Anglo-centric Americans are.
I love/prefer vocals in native languages.
I am a YouTube “SpaceAmbient” addict.
John McLaughlin and Diana Krall are the two greatest concert performers I’ve ever been in the presence of.
Novella is my favorite Renaissance album.
I think Stereolab belongs on PA. (Heck! They’re even referenced in the Post Rock definition!) This is addictive!

That's a very good one, my wish as well. I guess there are a lot of artists who didn't stick to one subgenre through their whole career.

I have never cared and never will care what genre or sub-genre artists are categorized by. I'm not sure I even care for the prog label. It's all music so what difference does it make what we call it?

^ Mostly one of communication and fluidity. If someone asks me what kind of music I like, I may not want to answer "I don't like labels" which doesn't really move the conversation, or "I like everything", which isn't true. Even if the answer were more specific, such as "Art music", that still leaves a lot of explaining to do. "What do you mean by 'art music'?" the response will almost always be, and that can be the start of an interesting discussion but it still leaves the question unanswered. However if I say progressive rock or jazz/rock fusion or Electronic or mathrock and I cite a few artists they may know of, some small amount of common ground can be found.

Genres (even sub-) are also very handy when searching for new music. You may look for something symphonic for example. The problem now is that you can't find WYWH for example under symphonic. (Just a silly example to make my point clear.)

I guess the issue is that no one I know (besides my husband) seems to know what prog is. When I say I like progressive rock, people just look at me blankly. I add, you know: Yes, King Crimson, ELP...they continue to look blank. It's no use saying Genesis because then they think Invisible Touch is (a) prog and (b) what I listen to. So categories aren't helping me out much.

Probably not controversial but
1) Fripp is the greatest prog guitarist bar none 2) Vangelis & Jean Michel Jarre are prog 3) Univers Zero are the second best original RIO band after Henry Cow 4) Sleepytime Gorilla Museum should never have folded before I got the chance to see them live 5) Modern prog is in good hands with the likes of Knifeworld, Bent Knee, Cheer-Accident and the like 6) Daevid Allen was a genius but I did find him occasionally over twee 7) Mike Oldfield is the single greatest solo artist ever 8) Lyon is the new home of modern prog (Poil, ni, ukandanz, chromb!, etc etc)

I agree that philosophically genre labels are largely arbitrary and unimportant. But they do have a practical use in the context of PA as a tool for answering the question "I heard X and I like it, what else is similar to X?". Which has been useful to me in finding new things that I like.

-One of my biggest heresies is that i actually like Union.Maybe because it was the first Yes album I bought, and frankly at the time I wasn't aware of the murky circumstances surrounding it. At times it doesn't even sound like a Yes album, because of tne many musicians involved. Wakeman can barely be heard, Bruford seems to be present in just a few songs and I seriously doubt Howe did many of the solos. But there is a lot of good music there, if you forget about the name on the cover.
-I consider Felona e Sorona and Oceans pretty average albums,far from the masterpieces that many regard them to be. In fact,I like Oceans 2 better than the first part
-Roll the Bones is one of my favourite Rush albums.Geddy's bass tone is a killer on this one.
-I wouldn't rate Tubular Bells as one of Mike Oldfield's best works
-I don't consider Queensryche progressive metal at all

It is a bit startling that artists we either take for granted or grew up on are now truly approaching irrelevance. For many decades the names 'Yes' or 'Jethro Tull' or 'King Crimson' were instantly recognizable even to non-fans. Not so much anymore.

I don't like Dark Side of the Moon.
I think Charlie Dominici had a better voice than James LaBrie (dunno how he would have handled the high notes in later DT albums).
I find Rush's "La Villa Strangiato" boring.
I think Invisible Touch is a much stronger album than other people say.
