Topic: NHL 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs Posted: April 09 2016 at 15:00
Another year has just about passed and it is now time to compete for Lord Stanley's Cup. Two months of blood, guts and glory. Men with no teeth will begin to look like Grizzly Adams as their razors are put away for as long as they remain alive and standing in the playoffs. The Capitals from Washington have won the President's trophy for the league's best win-loss record and have to be considered the odds on favorite to bring the Cup home. But there are 15 other teams who will stand tall and try to stop them.
I, of course, have to shout out "Let's Go Red Wings" as they have made the playoffs for the 25th straight year. Hoping that 1st year coach, Jeff Blashill, can wring some magic out of the old legs of Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and goalie Jimmy Howard. They are surrounded by a bunch of young and talented kids, who are hopefully too dumb to realize that they really don't have much of a chance. They have made the dance floor, and now its' time to shoot the puck and bring the Cup back home to Hockeytown.

I won't say who I think will emerge from the east... they are the SWilson of hockey and their fans the SWilson fans of hockey. yuck..
as far as the west.. who knows.. doesn't matter.
Either SWilson or the Caps are my predictions to hoist the cup. SWilson is peaking and playing the best hockey in the league right now. The Caps? I wouldn't bet a buck on them considering their past . But the talent and balance is there if they can regain the form they had for the first 6 months of the season will win it. First season in some time I tought the east was overall stronger than the west.

Scott, we'll be thinking of you later tonight at the Orion Studios. The owner, Mike Potter, is a proud Michigander, and from the ceiling of the stage room hangs a banner celebrating the Red Wings' win in the 2001-2002 season.

My blueshirts look pretty good, though the east seems to run through Washington (if they can avoid the choke) and Pittsburgh. Injuries a slight concern as well...and of course I'm rarely confident they can score more than 2 goals in a game.
The west is intriguing. Chicago is stumbling into the playoffs, and both LA teams seem strong but not completely dominant. Is this the year St. Louis actually does something positive in the playoffs? Can dallas stop anyone from scoring to have a legitimate chance?
Once matchups are set I'll post my predictions.

I saw micky post that you were seeing Frogg Cafe. I think that they would be an awesome act to catch live.

to Philly making the playoffs. Though it seemed inevitable with Boston's hilarious slide.

that they are Scott... the deliver in spades on stage and have every time we've seen them. I think this was the 3rd or 4th time. they drew quite the crowd last night even with the weather here and delivered a frickin fantastic set. Previewed stuff from the new album and THAT stuff really was quite striking. Their new album is now very much on my radar to watch for.

given the choice between them and the frickin Bruins... I'll take Philly any day of the week. They will make for an entertaining 1st round matchup. Caps in 6 there.

As a NYR fan I must root for Philly to fail.

Weirdly, this set up has set up some unfortunate clashes in my mind. I figured both TB and Detroit would be eliminated in round one...which obviously can't happen. I similarly thought that Nashville could make some hay...but for my money the ducks are the best of the west (with that other LA team close behind).
I assume the blues will continue to suck...but it felt wrong to pick all the favorites...
