Mwandishi for me. Sextant is up there with the very best fusion releases ever alongside Weather Report's I Sing The Body Electric and Bennie Maupin's Jewel In The Lotus.

Weather Report (my favorite of theirs)
Return to Forever
Herbie Hancock (not one of the best of his fusion era, from what I recall)

Yeah that cover art is gorgeous. I had a poster of it glued to the ceiling for ten years. I would watch it every night before falling asleep and then waking up to it early in the morning, eluminated in sunlight no less.
There's a sense of total freedom about the dancers. Some kind of metaphysical handshake with the animals, desert and stars above.

RTF...that's one of my all time favorite fusion albums.

Tough call between the first two...

I'll go WR this time.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive

All three!  But that particular RTF album lags far behind their first two; same is true for WR - their first two (and the Live in Tokyo double album, from which half of the second album is taken) are my favorites; with Herbie, however, Sextant lies smack dab in the middle of his proggiest and his funkiest periods - the Mwadishu (sp?) stuff bleeds right into his funk-fusion period and Sextant is the transition album between the two periods - one foot in the prog and one in the funk - great album!

I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....
