I stand by my original statement that there is no room for the behaviour shown and there is no excuse REED! That being said i am glad the clown is back and we can put the problem behind us hopefully along with the mariah thread (although i doubt that). This is the last i will say on the subject.

Long live progression.

No, Sweetie, I am merely stating that the "f" word is not profanity. I was trying, very pedantically, to point out an inaccuracy.

There's nothing wrong with testing the limits.
There's nothing wrong with sticking to them.
Profanity (whether you define it in religious or legal terms) exists only because we haven't been able to move on to the level of being able to talk about anything with honesty without the lingering puritanical shame we've inherited from our culture.
Yet we can get as 'dirty' as we want (for an example, check out 75% of the threads in this forum, especially once they go off on tangents) as long as we don't use specific words or show specific body parts or acts. It's a pretty bizarre situation.
I'm not making any new points here or offering any suggestions, am I?
Oh well.
Boobies.

profanity is all about respect and there was little of that shown..
Its all about attention seeking really and I suppose we are all encouraging that by still talking about it
So I will shut up to now

Respect to whom, God? I agree there was no respect being shown to other forum users.

I got reprimanded at the same time as VC. My posts were graphically similar, but a million miles away in intent. And herein lies the rub........

It's darn hard to enforce respect.
It's pretty tough just to agree on what respect means.
I don't think any of us have much expectation that the level of respect will change much around here (for better or worse).

There is no such thing as a dirty word. Nor is there a word so powerful, that it's going to send the listener to the lake of fire upon hearing it.

What is the matter with us? Can't we just sit on the
side and watch the hypocrisy and injustice all over the
place and pretend it's none of ours? I mean, if so many
other people seem not to care and are obviously not bothered
by it, who are we to ring some big bells about it? Well,
majority is NEVER right, but that is only one more reason to
keep quiet and pretend to agree.

It was Frank Zappa more than anyone else, and those songs on You Are What You Is in particular, that made me feel OK about being a non-religious person in my formative years.
Having said that, I am always tolerant of other people's beliefs as long as they don't inspire them to fly airplanes into crowded buildings.

Thats just semantics, isn't it. No matter how explicit or detailed a rule is... someone will always translate it they way they want to... Fact of life... but I bet you knew exactly what the rule was saying....
|
Not the point.
"Do not run in the corridor" is a clear rule.
"If you are moving quickly down the corridor a teacher may deem it necessary for you to slow down" is not a clear rule.
|
Means nothing... First rule.. which you say is clear...
I could say that is just the way I walk fast.. a teacher might say I was running... its all how you want to translate it....

Wow! I never thought it would get this vicious. Obviously nobody here has ever been in the military or played in a rock band where the F word is commonly employed in many different figures of speach. C`mon it`s just a bloody WORD. Go to any reputable dictionary and you will find multiple definitions. I think it has more definitions than the word, set which in some dictionaries has more than two hundred interpretations. We are living in the 21st century people. lighten up. There are many more worse things occurring in the world today than just worrying about a simple four letter word. Just look at the headlines on your local paper. I didn`t even want to open any of the four papers I subscribe to this morning, all I wanted to do was say f**** this god forsaken and doomed planet.

Please....
You speak of hypocrisy and injustice... and yet you make statements about having zero tolerance for people who have faith? So you expect justice... but you believe you shouldn't have to give any??
I'm sorry, but I'm really very disappointed in many of you who have responded to this incident. Sometimes in our need to stand up for a friend, we blindly agree to things we have no idea about. Some of you really need to pay attention, otherwise you really could be swayed to fly planes into buildings for somebody's injustice you haven't really got a clue about...
Yes, your right VC... we shouldn't stand back when we see hypocracy or injustice... I think you totally blew any argument you might have had in the way you went about dealing with it.... Thats injustice.
