Pink Floyd – Live at Montreux 21/11/1970 (classy `official’ bootleg release?) Seven Steps to the Green Door – Fetish (amazing, but why oh why does it have to be 79 minutes long?!) Karfagen – Seven Karnataka – Secrets of Angels District 97 – In Vaults Oresund Space Collective – Out into Space Leap Day – Skylge’s Lair
Nadavati – Le Vent de L’Esprit Souffle Ou il Veut - killer French late-Seventies fusion. Sagi, would you have heard this one before? I bought the CD reissue of it recently, very nice indeed:

No Mike never heard of them before, it does sound good so I'll listen to a few more videos later and maybe order it myself too, thanks for the tip man
SecondsBeforeLanding--- the great deception. ( discovered this great Floyd inspired album thanks to Dave, Guldbamsen. Thanks for this one a couple of years back, buddy! ) Dream theater--- the astonishing ( not a again you say?! I just can't put it down. ) Metallica-- through the never ( pretty good recording. Nice mastering by Howie Wienburg. Doesn't sound quite as punchy as S&M but still good none the less. Vocals are treated better. ) Seventh circle-- the struggle. Fughu-- human (the facts.) Headspace-- I am Anonymous.

Oh I know Sam! When you are into so many sounds and various artists it's a bit difficult to lean all of your attention into one artist for a solid length of time. I love ze Floyd. They are one of the very few bands where I know I will revisit until I'm old and grey. They are a sonic staple in my domain. :) For the record, I love saucerful and I'd take it over piper anyday, but hey that's me. Oh and Piper does sound more life like in mono. I find the tonality of the instruments to sound more life like/realistic sounding. ;) Python Blue? This is a pretty cool artist. He is a one man synth wizard named Christopher Low, who embodies an 80's and 90's synth pop/new wave sound that actually sounds a bit futuristic oddly. You can find all kinds of retro charm in Python Blue's music ranging from Gary Numan, new order, Depeche mode and even the sisters of mercy. Most of the music is instrumental and Python Blue is available on Bandcamp. :)
Yeah, me too If would be awesome if all albums had that quality of production I have some of their albums on CD and vinyl and they sound completely different, but I really enjoy both
It's exactly that but I couldn't put my finger on it.
That sounds cool. I should probably listen to the masters first, though

OK, you're going to want to hear that third album, Sam, the sax is out of this world, and the album has this really murky, plodding grooving heaviness. One of the sexiest RPI albums I know for sure!
I sure want now
Friday:
Tangerine Dream - Rubycon
Edgar Froese - Ages
N-1 - Macht Ihr Mal, Ich Hab Schon
Vangelis - The Dragon
Vangelis - Hypothesis
Pink Floyd - Ummagumma (Studio album. Why did I used to hate this? Sysyphus and The Narrow Way are easily the best pieces (kudos to Gilmour for recording the only full band track all by himself) but the experimental tracks are not bad. Mason's piece was certainly an important experience for what he would on their next albums.)
Saturday: Gazua - Sobrenatural
Black Bombaim - Far Out
Friday: Porcupine Tree - In Absentia (What a boring closing track )
The Doors - Morrison Hotel
Eloy - Metromania
PFM - Per Un Amico
Van Der Graaf Generator - Still Life (I give up, this is definitely not for me )
Krakatau - Water Near a Bridge (It's a really good album. Some ideas are not fully developed ("The Saucerful Effect" ) but it's a cool debut nevertheless )

It is quite a difficult album, no confusion why it can be hard to enjoy. I think it's the sort of album that you appreciate more than truly love. I quite like all of it, but I skip the `Several Species...' nonsense every time and the album is great! That track is kind of cool once, but never needs to be repeated!
Last night's choices:
Pink Floyd – The Pink Jungle (Live in Amsterdam 1969) King Crimson – Islands Scapa Flow – Uuteen Aikaan Ruphus –New Born Day Nova – Wings of Love Saga – s/t Rush – Permanent Waves Jane – Fire, Water, Earth and Air Morpheus - Rabenteuer Womega – A Quick Step

I agree, it's a difficult album but I'm glad I continued to try it. Yes, it's easily the worst track from it but I'm sure it wasn't particularly easy to record. "Grantchester" is nice but it's a bit long. I guess Waters was somehow out of ideas, since he wrote most of More in the same year? (damn, I skipped that album )
How's that bootleg?
I noticed you've been spinning that Rush album a few times lately. Is it getting better?
I heard a few tracks from Womega on the other thread. The instrumental is cool but the vocals are annoying

I bought that Pink FLoyd release (which my Ipod incorrectly titled `The Pink Jungle: Live in Amsterdam', when instead it is the concert on the clip below) a few months ago, it is no doubt a bootleg, but it's been given a proper sleeve and pressed CD release. I have no idea what the legal loophole around it was that allowed it to be sold through some online vendors (perhaps they were simpky being shifty! ) , but I am happy to add it to my Floyd collection. I'm always fascinated by their early live concerts, makes you appreciate the progression of them both live and in the studio. You can actaully listen to that particular recording here:
I have no doubt that story and production behind `Species' is more interesting than the actual composition! I like `Grandchester Meadows', but I agree, everyone elses pieces are probably more interesting on that set.
Damn, I skipped `More' as well, and you know that's my favourite Floyd album!! I'll spin it tonight after `Atom Heart Mother'!
Random thought - I really dislike live performances from the time of `Cymbaline' when David and Roger would ROOOOOOAR the chorus! It really ruins the fragile mood of the piece, and on all the bootlegs I've heard, it always causes the speakers to muffle and distort! Grrrr! Very inapporpriate.
Yes, I don't mind that Rush album, it seems fairly short! I find the lyrics a bit unengaging, but the playing is slick. Definitely a good album, although I still never see a time when I'll truly love the band.
Ha, those vocal on that Womega album are baffling! They literaly do improve after a few spins, or rather you focus more on what the album does right!

I listened to a few minutes but I can barely understand anything they play At least we have Ummagumma's live album.
It's Floyd's "Revolution 9". It's funny, I used to hate that track from The Beatles' White Album and when I played the album some weeks ago it was the most interesting track from it
Shame on us Enjoy my favourite Floyd album then
I know what you mean, I thought it was odd too. I have a bootleg DVD from a 1970 TV performance and they do that.
It's so good instrumentally that I never paid attention to what Lee sings about If you enjoy the album it's good enough
Good to know. At least it's not Peter Gabriel's special brother

Tonight’s choices:
Seven Steps to the Green Door - Fetish Renaissance – Delane Lea Studios 1973 Pink Floyd – Atom Heart Mother Pink Floyd - More Deuter – Aum Steve Roach – Structures from Silence If – Live in Europe 1972
Berits Halsband – s/t – Sagi, Sam, Gary – ABSOLUTE HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! I bought this reissue of a rare Swedish instrumental album from 1975 a few weeks ago (it comes in a large and lavish hard cardboard book-like package), and it is a knockout beginning to end. Sounds like everything from Out of Focus, If, etc...a lively mix of jazz/fusion/rock with terrific jamming, quite rough around the edges, but the musicians are top-notch, with a bit of grit as well.
One of the best things I've bought in years, can't stop spinning it!

^ I just got into Arena recently with The Unquiet Sky so I've been listening to other albums.
Yesterday was the first time I played Pride and I liked it a lot.
Not a weak spot in their entire discography I feel. Their dvd's have some troubling A&R + video quality issues, but other than that Arena have quality albums from start to finish. If I may recommend. Live&Live ( amazing double live album from the contagion tour. Audio quality is unbelievable as well.) Second. Immortal? I feel its a masterpiece. All the tracks are just amazing. Great flow to the album. Lastly. The Cry EP. This is a rare gem, but you can hear Arena in a somewhat different way than expected.
Hope you'll enjoy them as much as I do. Arena are the kings of neo Prog for me.
Arena-- XX ( DVD. Musicianship is still there. Arena still have some gas left Their old tanks. ) Sound of contact-- Dimensionaut ( I hoping for another one from these guys soon. ) Fields of the Nephilim-- ceremonies ( I'm REALLY hoping for another release from these guys soon!) Arena-- the unquiet sky Riverside-- second life syndrome ( RIP Piotr Grudziñski. A shock that you left us so soon. ) Dead Can Dance-- the serpents egg Agalloch-- the mantle Alpha matrix--- downloaded Python blue-- cyborg
