I'll be really interested to hear how you like it.  A record I'm very much into, and a grower.

By the way, I followed up your tip on Claudio Milano's work. Had some contretemps with the Italian mail service, and a little email correspondence with Claudio - who turns out to be a lovely and generous man - and yesterday received Nichelodeon's Ukiyoe and Il gioco del silenzio albums together with one by the Radiata 5tet. Absorbing music this dense is going to take a little time, but I can tell it's going to be a great journey Thumbs Up

Well that Oteme album turned out to be something of a headscratcher for me. I absolutely adore the music - the plethora of extremely wellplayed flutes and horns - but the vocals ruin the overall experience imo. Then again I'm somewhat of a vocals-nazi meaning if the vocals don't work for me I end up struggling with the remaining album. I just feel the music of Oteme deserves so much more than the anodyne and flat delivery of both the male and female singer. And apropos Claudio Milano - I could just imagine him singing on the album!
On the other hand it may just be a grower, but I have a hard time imagining warming up to those vocals. (Crosses fingers)

I too have spoken with Claudio and he is a very empathetic guy. The kind of man I'd enjoy a pint with methinks.
I love the way you describe the music as being 'dense'. Possibly the most apt word for his music.

Holy mother of Ford!! That is the source right there. Be careful with that thing - it's been known to make grown men mad and women absolutely hysterical.
I am a big fan myself but it didn't happen instantly. I had a hard time with the music to begin with. The altogether strange way of weaving pieces together and the choral outbursts happening in all the "wrong" places literally made my head spin. Heh....I love his style now though, but yes I still vividly remember the honeymoon

How have you fared with the ol Igor? Has it started to make sense yet or is it still incredibly confusing?

Yeah, this is something that it takes a little time to come to terms with, but I'm making progress, and I think Igor is also helping me to be reincarnated in more enlightened form next time the wheel spins Wink

Suffice to say that I spent a whole weekend listening just to these discs at the proper level of volume (wife was away, the neighbours hate me already...). And the more I listened, the more it made sense, although at the same time I seemed to become a small dark blue alien presence in my own kitchen.

Digging the hell out of it, but in order to retain semi-anthropoid shape I am now only listening to a couple of discs a week.

I reckon Les Fous d'Or is your acid test: once you start to realise its genius, you have grokked l'essence d'Igor Thumbs Up

LOL This conversation is a slow mover I'll give it that.
Sorry, but I've been swamped in school work and faaaar too much drink during the holiday...so I kinda forgot about this.
Either way, I'm definitely glad that I'm not the only one who found Igor a tough cookie to crack. I gather you're onto something about Les Fous d'Or....but then again I feel the same about Docteur Faust.
But once this primal Indian-like zeuhl music starts making sense, it really does make an impression unlike anything else I've heard.

Oh and a full weekend of nothing but Igor?LOLLOLLOL
Good times. I remember them fondly - my mom took this picture the last time I spent that much time with my French friend:
^ And that was when you were twenty!  This stuff has side effects LOL

Don't know if I have a favourite, yet, among Igor's works. Docteur Faust is pretty great, Nagual too. Les Fous D'Or is the soundtrack for those times when I feel the need to take out my left brain hemisphere and fry it with onions and a few scallops.

Hope the New Year celebrations were thoroughly enjoyable!  A week's recovery time seems entirely reasonable.

Fave Igor? I switch back n forth between Docteur Faust and Logos, but all of his albums have a tendency to ring something unique and interesting to the table. Let's Start is also incredible - especially that wonderful cover art with the stone penis wrapped in wireConfusedLOL

And yeah thanks the new year festivities were nothing short of spectacular. I remember something about dancing with a huge watering can on my arm, a lesbian that kept telling me not to flirt with her (which I didn't) whilst continuously pushing her boobs in my face, coconuts, feathers and Trout Mask Replica at 4 in the morning.

I'm hoping Trout Mask Replica is hip slang for some kind of avant-garde lesbian sex act Wink

There's something to be said for Let's Start alright. The title track is just genius, those Krautrock boys could learn something from Igor about repetition!

I was hunting for more Wakhevitch information and found his official site, which mentions NEW MATERIAL Shocked

Then again, said recording is supposed to come out in 2014 so I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Shocked What the deuce?

A new album inspired by his many years of living in India - centred around the Ardhanarisvara tale - why thank you very much Igor! Fits perfectly well with your 70s output methinks.
Ahh nuts...part of me wishes that I didn't see thisLOL I hope this sees the light of day at some point and preferably before he snuffs it.
I have my doubts though.

I actually like Gianotti's voice - which seems somewhere between one of the singers in Stormy Six (Franco Fabbri?) and...João Gilberto. To me it fits with the music and the lyrics, similarly to the way Mark Hollis' husky, wavering voice is just right on Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock.  I also like the songs better for being able to read the English translations in the CD booklet - he's a good lyricist, I think.

I do grok what you're saying though. The human voice seems to evoke a more visceral response than any other element in music - plenty of singers out there that have the same effect on me, and it means I can't get on with their music no matter how much I like what the band is doing.  C'est la vie.

I'd certainly buy Claudio a beer if I had the pleasure to meet him in person. Those vocal chords probably need a lot of coolant!

^ These two discs are DVD's, they are meant to be played on a home theater system. The computer probably doesn't have any program to open it, but it's not usual these days.

Only the third disc is the surround sound and video disc....but is that why it won't play on the regular cd player...? Shouldn't it play in any system that has dvd capability?
So then which of the three discs is the one Wilson remastered for audio..???? Are all 3 discs remastered or just the third one..???
Confused

^ You're talking about this edition, right? https://www.discogs.com/Caravan-In-The-Land-Of-Grey-And-Pink/release/2943905

According to this, only the third disc is a DVD (it's properly identified in the disc) and it won't play on a regular CD player. It also says that only the bonus tracks and the surround mix were remastered by Wilson.
