On the whole I'd have to agree with micky, the percentage of mediocre symph and neo is quite high.
Neo yes, but symphonic? Yes, Genesis, ELP, Camel, Kansas, Harmonium, Focus, Renaissance, etc. I'd say maybe it's the prog subgenre that produced the best bands.

Crimson,Camel or Yes. Tough choice. Crimsons Red is a much loved album and has Starless on it. But Yes's Relayer grabbed me and shook me by the (Very hard) today whilst travelling to work. There is just so much happening,so many shocking walls of sound ,twists and turns and some real beauty which breaks through here and there. It's a monster of an album.

^Yes it is. I remember when it first came out, and I was in high school. I went with my mom to a church function at night in the middle of the week but told her I didn't feel like going inside, so I sat out in the car and turned on the radio. As it was, the local powerhouse FM rock station just happened to have the whim of playing Relayer in its entirety, and I was in time to catch the beginning. I soon became mesmerized by the journey the piece had taken me along on. Soon after it ended, I hardly noticed my mother opening the car door after her meeting. I think I was shaking like astronaut Dave Bowman at the end of his momentous ride through the heavens. Well, not quite, but I'll never forget that first experience with arguably Yes' best.
