Well I should get this one!! I still can't believe I've bought this yet.
I will get the blu ray edition of the album cause of the audio gold that exists on it.
I really wish all music could be released in this blu ray package. I would never buy another cd again if it were so. ;)

Thursday.

Anubis-- the tower of silence
Iron maiden-- flight 666 (blu-ray)
Mutiny in Jonestown-- 14
Mutiny in Jonestown-- 9 ( our good friend Dennis a.k.a THE CRIMSON KING is making a push to get his MIJ project into PA. You can check him on soundcloud under his name and title of the band. It's truly great stuff. High quality Psyche/space rock)
Iron maiden-- the book of souls (disc 2)
Riverside-- love, fear and the time machine
IQ-- on the road of Bones
Arena-- Rapture (DVD)

I hope my little review won't put you off Tongue
I totally agree, I would get only blu ray, instead of cd. It's too bad my home theater amp has a really flat sound.

Funny you mention that, Sam, my home theater set-up sounds terrific on movies, dog-sh*t and flat on music/albums...I can't work it out.

Anyway, I just bought a decent soundbar (actually for the TV in the main bedroom), and that gets better sound out of it. I've actually dozed off listening to a ton of Steve Roach albums in beautiful lush surround sound! On another note, the latest Iron Maiden disc had a real kick to it through that as well!

You MUST hear that particular Brainticket album! It's a bit more coherent than the debut while also being plenty trippy. It's got a female vocalist too, and it doesn't sound entirely different to that `Starring Rosi' Ash Ra Tempel album, just a bit more fully psych. I think it's essential....man, I get some looks when I wear my t-shirt of the cover art!

I noticed when I played them on my Ipod yesterday that both that album and the Dom one are just over 30 minutes, so I dug out the CD's and burned them both onto one CD for the car! They're both pretty much classics to my ears

Heh, good job with the Wilson review, taking aim at the Big Guys, eh?!

When I listened to The Raven the other day, I connected my blu ray player to the home theater and the amp I use with my turntable, and alternated between both with the same headphones. It loses a lot of quality on the amp, but it sounded much more powerful. Generally, it sounded better on the home theater though. Tongue

He has albums on surround? That must be a fantastic experience Smile

I'll try to listen to it tomorrow (and Starring Rosi next Summer Tongue), it really seems essential. Yeah, that must be a weird t-shirt LOL Did you listen to the new one? I put it on my top 20, it's really good Thumbs Up

It's a short album but it seems even shorter, like 10 minutes Big smile I don't like the bonus tracks on side 3 though.

Thanks! I felt bad for bashing the album, despite being my honest opinion. I still think it's better than The Incident Tongue

I definitely think you're right about `H.C.E' probably being better than PT's `The Incident', Sam. It's odd, some parts of `The Incident' are superb, others, like that `I'm drawing the la-hine, I'm taking control' childish emo-crap are so far beneath them it's staggering! But, I'm really eager to give it another spin now (Damn you, shaking fist in hugrly comical fashion!).

Oh, I have no idea if Roach properly has albums in Surround Sound, I simply turned on the option on my soundbar and it sounded terrific!

I drove the work van around today - it has a really good sound system (nice and loud with very clear sound) - I packed in Meshuggah's ObZen album - blaring at insane levels - man, I think the whole suburb is familiar with that album now

He saved his best ideas for his first solo album, that one sure doesn't bore me. I think even "On The Sunday Of Life" is superior to The Incident and HCE Tongue

If he doesn't have, I think he should Smile Speaking of surround and electronic music, I recommend you this Jarre DVD. The video is not that interesting but man, that's one epic surround experience Clap I normally play it and turn off the TV LOL

Curiously, I noticed yesterday there's a new CD/vinyl reissue of it Smile

I like it a lot. There is some heavy psychedelic rock with fuzz, echo or wah wah guitar parts but overall it's laid back. But these guys are heavy even when they're laid back. The vocals are drawn out and dark but I don't listen to the words, just the sound.
Check it out on the tube, I think you'll like it. This morning I listened to their album "Shivering King And Others" and liked the first listen.

Tom Ozric: love that you are getting heavy these days. You've turned over a new metal-leaf! ;)
Sam(meltdowner): when you say your amp is "flat" do you mean neutral or actually lifeless sounding? If it's the later, replace the amp. It may not be powerful to drive your speakers in general.
Check the OHMS (impedance level) of both your speakers and amp. Probably a mis-match. :(
Michael(Aussie M-1000 ;) : I think what a lot of sound bars have, like most home theater amp/receivers, is what is called DSP. Basically what that is is that you can have a stereo analog lead, and allow that signal to run through all five speaker channels or in your case reproduce the 'surround vibe' out of your sound bar. As you may know an analog sound signal can only be processed or identified through 2 channel audio only, so a digital spatial positioner will and can latch on to an analog signal to gain a surround or 5 channel output.
You lose a bit of quality when you have that cause we all know just about everything sounds better in a pure analog sound signal, so I'm not sure if your sound bar is necessarily better just different. :)

Many albums today and yesterday.

Pink Floyd-- saucerful of secrets ( the mix on this album is a thing of beauty. )
Pink Floyd-- the endless river (in stunning 5.1 DTS master audio 24/96)

Star One-- Victims of a modern age.
Lacuna coil-- Dark adrenalin
IQ-- On the road of bones
Black Sabbath-- Mob rules
Fates warning-- perfect Symetry & Darkness in a different light
DELAIN-- the human contradiction
Hawkwind-- warrior at the edge of time
Devin Townsend-- Addicted
Damian Wilson-- Cosmas
NIN-- The Slip
David Bowie-- Blackstar.
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

That sounds great, thanks! That's how I listen to vocals too, most of the times Tongue
I only heard of them this week, since they were announced for this year's Psych festival. It will be one epic weekend Big smile

Neutral and lifeless Tongue If I can't feel the drums and the bass, what's the point? LOL The vocals and guitars sound nice though. I usually listen through my Sennheiser cans. I didn't know the impedance level differences matter Ermm

It sure is. It's a really good sounding CD Smile

Some of their better albums should have that sound quality, besides the classic ones. I want the cow in 5.1 DTS Big smile

Joe Satriani - Surfing With the Alien
Bubu - Anabelas
Demon Fuzz - Afreaka
Albatros - Garden of Eden
Metropolis - S/T

The first two are favourites of mine and the latter three are some that I've been investigating. So far none have enticed me quite enough to consider buying them, though Metropolis is close and Afreaka may grow on me with a couple of listens.
when i was a kid a doller was worth ten dollers - now a doller couldnt even buy you fifty cents
