Yeah it takes me back too, I think I got this album maybe a year or two after its release, they were one of the first bands I really gotten into and you know what I must say I've never lost my interest in them, I think 25 years later Pantera still sound f**king awesome!
I'm not sure how you see them today, but I'll always consider them to be one of the best metal bands ever and Dimebag as the king of metal guitar players. Yep Approve

^  After hearing Cemetery Gates on the radio I bought Cowboys From Hell on cassette and have been a fan since then.
I would say my top three are Vulgar Display Of Power, Cowboys From Hell and Far Beyond Driven probably in that order.
(Well, the order changes regularly but that's still my top three.)

I was never a massive fan, although I did gladly get their albums that ran from `Cowboys from Hell' through to `The Great Southern Trendkill', and I especially thought `Far Beyond Driven' and that `Trendkill' were superb. I was more of a Metallica fan at that stage, to be honest, but I never got rid of the CD's. However, I put away everything that was pretty much UN-prog related in boxes a few year back and stored them in a cupboard. It was annoying, after I saw your post with that album mentioned, I went to my shelves to dig it out and remembered `Oh yeah....' I would take a bit of time searching through endless boxes to locate them!

As a big fan as I am I've never heard anything pre Cowboys From Hell, it was the first album I got by them and on cassette too (Still have that cassette along with Far Beyond Driven). My favourite would be Vulgar then Far Beyond Driven and Cowboys I would rate the same. The next one The great Southern Trendkill is also excellent, Reinventing the Steel is where they lost me, it's ok but seems uninspired to me.

Yesterday:

Nuova Idea – In the Beginning
Tangerine Dream – Optical Race
Steve Roach – Sigh of Ages
Ashra/Manuel Gottsching – Inventions for Electric Guitar
Daevid Allen/Microcosmic – Sacred Geometry
Deuter - Aum
Alpha Wave Movement – Horizons (very 80’s Tangerine Dream flavoured this one)
Alpha Wave Movement – System A (amazing release!)
Alpha Wave Movement – Harmonic Currents (those who love Steve Hillage’s `Rainbow Dome Musick’ should adore this)

Mansun – Six (never gets old this one, Sagi!)

^^ I never listened to any of their albums, but I really like the few tracks I know.

Last night:
Focus - At the Rainbow
Black Bombaim & La La La Ressonance - s/t

Today:
Mondo Drag - s/t (This is truly fantastic, Michael Clap That Floydian intrumental track is probably the best one, it reminded me of Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast. The Hammond on the first track would make Jon Lord proud Smile)
10000 Russos - s/t (It's funny, Krautrock was not popular in the 70's around here, but some bands nowadays seem influenced by it)
Mike Oldfield - Platinum
Saga - Worlds Apart
Peak - Ebondazzar

Great, Sam, cool you dug that Mondo Drag album! I agree the instrumental is the best piece, the singer is perfectly decent if unmemorable, just not great and not terrrible either! Doesn't let the music down, though, and I'm definitely buying it next payday. The cover will look lovely on vinyl!

Can't go wrong with Mansun, Sam, you can probably pick up their albums (especially go for the schizophrenic super-proggy `Six' first, I don't there's ever been a supposed `pop' album ever like it) dirt-cheap on Ebay, etc. I've got that one on double-vinyl too (just look at that cover!).

I agree about the vocals. Even on that Doors inspired last track, he tries to do a Jim Morrison impression... and fails :D

The cover looks nice. I'll give it a listen later.

By the way, what do you think of Aum?

Tonight's choices:
Rush - 2112
Camel - Nude

I like `Aum', it's only problem is that it's not as good as the first album (which is not a very fair comparison). You know how much that first one means to me, so pretty much anything would have had trouble living up tpo it for me. But on its own merits, there's a ton of ideas, and it's plenty Krautrock-flavoured still. I seem to recall you've got a copy of that one on LP?

How did you go with `World's Apart'? I listened to it a few weeks back, I still enjoy it, but it's pretty much a pleasant undistracting background listen at best.

`2112' (hey, I got it right this time, I think I was calling it `2012' last time! )....You know, I do find the second side is perfectly good on that one as well as the more appreciated epic side-long title track!

`Nude'...I think it's frequently very good, but not the total return to form classic some people seem to think of it as.

I'll have to get the first one. I have Aum, but only listened to it once since I got it.

It's much better than the one I have :P

The vocals aren't as aggressive on side 2 and it has some lovely Mellotron on Tears. It's a good change of pace after the intense first side.

It's still the best album since Rain Dances.

Amon Duul II - Carnival In Babylon
Lubianka - Cerimonies
Simon Steensland - Fat Again

Dungen - Allas Sak

Edit: Oh and how could I forget David Bowie - Blackstar

Love that their is some pantera and Rush discussions on this page. Nice to read and I love both bands. Nice read. :)

Today. Bit of an odd list (mix) but didn't have a chance to listen to very much today.

Public enemy-- live at metropolis studios (24/96 DTS audio ;)
David Bowie-- Blackstar. ( ok. This is only my 2nd listen of the album but I really do quite like it. Haven't been much of a Bowie fan, but I did love him in Labyrinth and it was a childhood favourite movie of mine. Music was ok as well. Very 80's but I love the 80's so it doesn't bug me. I still listen to Annie Lennox and Invisible touch by Genesis on a regular basis. Lol. Anyway, RIP Mr. DB! It's been a sonic smash!
Threshold-- for the journey. (The box is such a great tune. )
Andy Jackson-- Signal to noise (24/48 LPCM Stereo). I'm interested to hear his latest.

Have a good one guys.
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

I was only able to listen to the title track today, which I really liked, it seems like progressive britpop. I'll listen to the rest later Smile

Today:
Birds and Buildings - Multipurpose Trap
Anaquim - As Vidas dos Outros
The Clash - s/t (US version)
The Doors - s/t
Michael Brückner - R is for Rocket and S is for Space
FEM - Sulla Bolla di Sapone
