Albums I have yet to check out include the new Battles and Perhaps. Been meaning to check out the former, but their latest album did absolutely nothing for me.

OK, I think I can have a go at this now. I've made more of an effort than usual to keep up with things as they're released this year, so I actually have some clue what I like Smile
 
My Favourite Album of the Year:
OTEME, L’agguato , L´abbandono , Il mutamento
More brilliant songwriting and elegant, unusual chamber rock compositions from Stefano Gianotti and his ensemble. I haven't heard anything else from 2015 that is so full of beauty and originality.

(1)  This year two of my favourite records were instrumental concept albums about sleep phenomena. Fairly sure that won't happen again.  OK, a few vocals on the Breznev album, but the point holds.
(2)  That is the album Pharoah Overlord by the band Circle, not the album Circle by the band Pharoah Overlord (which was simultaneously released).  Thanks for that one, Jussi.
(3)  Contains my favourite actual song of the year, the superb Si tu Veux.
 
Overall, it's been a vintage year for the kind of stuff I'm into. And I still didn't hear a bunch of stuff!

I'm still absorbing it, really, but I already know it is magnificent. It was your blog which initially drew the first OTEME album to my attention - thanks again for that.

Have you by any chance checked out Claudio Milano - yet another wild man from Italy? He is without a shadow of a doubt one of the most extreme vocalists I've ever had the pleasure of listening to, and I'm fairly certain that his blend of chamber rock, avant and futuristic folk will hold something to your liking.

My mileage with extreme vocalists varies, but I count Demetrio Stratos and Klaus Blasquiz amongst my favourites, so we'll see how I do with Claudio.

I am familiar with his stuff, and have reviewed some of his albums with Nichelodeon and InSonar. He's a great vocalist, but his music can be very challenging.
