Maiden is still outstanding live, while Hetfield has lost that bite in his voice (still sounds good though) and Kirk/Lars have been too much below par on stage.

IMO, Iron Maiden are by far the superior musical entity here. I really like Metallica up to AJFA but after that I'm basically bored by them other then a few songs here and there. But even Metallicas cream de jour pales in comparison to the mighty Maidens best efforts.

Maiden easily. The better band is the one that has better, stronger discography and that are definitely Maiden. Maiden have 8 superb studio albums (debut, Killers, TNotB, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, 7th Son of a 7th Son and Brave New World in the newer period) while Metallica have only 3 superb albums (Kill'em All, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets) and two pretty good (And Justice for All and Black album). So the obvious winner for me are Maiden. And I prefer 80's Maiden's albums over Metallica's 80's albums.

Let's see...hmm.....Metallica are a cliche karaoke band and Iron Maiden.......has ten extraordinary songs over a very longer, highly mediocre career (including much of their "classic" albums)

Ride the Lightning and Somewhere in Time are both masterpieces, but I'm going to give Metallica more votes.

^ I truly love the 'story telling' approach of Iron Maiden (Gentleman's Metal, is my assessment) - Metallica are way too commercial. Still dig 'em but........

Maiden has made a name for themselves as "thinking man's metal" both on and off the stage. Metallica's efforts after 1988 are the flagship of Jockrock and can be thanked for the spawning of an immeasurable litany of numetal.

It's a convoluted situation for me because both bands have songs that mean something really big to me but I don't like either bands overall, they both have plenty of trash that they've dumped on the public. It's a bit of a weird situation...

Tough choice, since I love them both. Maiden, with sublime songs
such as To tame a land and Alexander the Great, have had a more "progressive"
personality, but in terms of overall music I prefer Metallica a bit more.

Yup. It's the Maiden for me. More cohesive discography.
