You probably already know Pienza Ehtnorkestra, but here's something else to check out for lovers of that out-there hurdy gurdy grind:

You forgot mandolins, mandocellos, bouzoukis, balalaikas and banjos. And bagpipes. And ouds. Wink

to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...

percussion is not an instrument, they are a variety of instruments mostly.

(I guess it could also be one instrument but they have names too, i.e. bongos, congas, maracas etc. even drums)

I don't have a favourite instrument. It entirely depends on the music and the person playing it.

Also, as others have mentioned, where's the oboe?

Hmm... not many linguists in tonight. There's nothing quite like a nice homophone... hobo == oboe in the Nederlandish spreken so I voted for that.
What?

Mellotron. In the right hands, it can be any instrument you can imagine. All in one package.

Your Dutch isn't getting any better over the years, Dean LOL

For me it's obviously bass guitar, but a double bass and a sax can grab and keep my attention just as easily.
