Great post here, Tom. ![]() I really enjoy Meshuggha's Koloss and ObZen. 2 of the most fantastic tech/extreme albums I can really think of. :) Love their crazy odd metering/rhythmic patterns. How they make it all work is beyond me. ![]() Anyway. I got my maiden ticket last month to see them in freakin April! What a wait that will be. |

Bit of a heavier night for me.
Trivium-- silence in the snow (good straight up metal album with very catchy choruses. An easy approach for this band. And the recording is lovely. Very neutral. Very warm. ;) Threshold-- dead reckoning. ( Mac's last album and it's a good one. RIP) Vanden Plas-- chronicles of the immortals: path 2( this gets better with every listen cause I hear something different every time. This is a really advanced listen. Quite a bit going on. |

Oh, the last piece on Koloss is beyond amazing. And you're right - they almost play R.I.O. Really bizarre metres, odd cycles, almost playing against each other, but nailed a formula that works. Really fascinating. They sound almost scientific tbh. I'm not a fan of 'the growl', but I doubt any other style would match the music. Plus, I suppose Jens' growl is not downright 'evil' and dodgey as many others. I believe they've classed this Math-Metal as 'Djent' ?? |

Hey Sam, well, I’ll have that `SONIC BOOM!!!!’ to look forward to again as well, I’ve just put the CD back in the car of `Timewind’. I still find the occasional howling winds a little distracting, I’d rather just listen to the music! Yesterday: Ozric Tentacles – Technicians of the Sacred Ozric Tentacles – Curious Corn Ozric Tentacles – Strangeitude Ozric Tentacles – Spirals in Hyperspace Ozric Tentacles – Paper Monkeys Ozric Tentacles – Jurassic Shift Ozric Tentacles – Pungent Effulgent Nemo - Coma Leap Day – From the Days of Deucalion 2 Phillip Wilkerson – Sojourner Tangerine Dream – White Eagle Patrick Vian - Bruits Et Temps Analogues (now that might be an interesting option in a future `classic electronic’ poll, Sam, have you heard that one? Not exactly purely electronic, but...frustrating and fascinating! |

^ I had no problem with the howling winds
![]() That's a lot of Ozric ![]() ![]() Did you finally spin the White Eagle CD? ![]() I never heard of Vian, but he's electronic enough to be under PE. I might do another with less accessible albums, since this one is not having the expected result ![]() Today: Neuronium - Digital Dream Ubi Maior - Incanti Bio Meccanici Klaus Schulze - Blackdance Anekdoten - Until All The Ghosts Are Gone |

Yep, I listened to `White Eagle' again, I find it perfectly decent without being too exciting. I'm going to give `Hyperborea' a new spin on the drive in tomorrow morning as well. Long neglected both of them.
Ha, I had an interesting drive home, I had the b-side/second track of `Timewind' playing loudly in the car, with the window down just a smidge, stuck in afternoon traffic crawling along, and the music causing this eerie intense soundtrack to everyone's sweaty impatience. More than a few people looking around in a daze no doubt thinking `What the f*ck is that?!' ![]() ![]() Today's choices: Tangerine Dream – Exit Tangerine Dream – White Eagle Klaus Schulze – Timewind Steve Roach – Structures from Silence Steve Hillage – Rainbow Dome Musick Giron – Forest The Tangent – A Spark in the Aether Mantric Muse – s/t PTF – What is Constant |

^ I have the idea that it's inferior to Hyperborea but haven't listened to it in a while. I don't have a copy of it yet, but I'll certainly buy it if I see it.
Didn't the music calm down everyone? ![]() ![]() I can't wait for my copy of Forest ![]() Last night: Dom - Edge of Time (I noticed that the last track of side A has a drum sample from ITCOTCK https://youtu.be/DoucQsqfDDU?t=6m40s ![]() Jean Michel Jarre - Équinoxe (Lately, I think that this one is inferior to Oxygène: less atmospheric, more melodic and poppish... and that reprise of part V in the end makes me cringe

Steve Hillage – Rainbow Dome Musick
Steve Hillage – Green (do you have this one, Sam? Comes on an amazing lime-green vinyl! ![]() Klaus Schulze – Body Love Klaus Schulze – Body Love 2 Klaus Schulze – Picture Music Klaus Schulze - Mirage Klaus Schulze - Timewind Il Tempio delle Clessidre - Alienatura Tangerine Dream – Hyperborea - Sam, I definitely think this is mostly superior to `White Eagle’, more detailed. The two longer pieces (second and forth tracks) are really impressive, and `Cinnamon Road’ is a cool but thankfully brief synth-pop piece. But for me the poorest track is the opener! It seems like a 4 minute idea stretched far too thin, very repetitive and quite tedious to my ears! Nick's a big fan of this one, he'll probably spring to it's defence! ![]() |

^^ I don't have any album from Hillage. I have a cool green and black vinyl from Psicomagia, though... not as cool as that Il Tempio LP
![]() I totally agree with you about Hyperborea. The opener should be half as long, I sometimes check the vinyl to see if it's almost over
