Again, it's Texas.

Sadly it's not the only place that boogeyman is used. Pretty recently I saw an article aobut fearmongering ads concerning "boys being able to look at your daughter in the bathroom" or something to that effect being used in a place I can't remember off the top of my head.

Excuse me? What exactly are you propagating?

I am propagating the idea that perverted men will abuse non-discrimination ordinances to sexually harass or abuse women is a frequently used scare tactic.

What exactly do you mean by "bathroom"? A toilet or the kind of facility where several people take a shower in the same room at the same time?

A toilet. Where you urinate or empty your bowels. Read the link I posted to better understand.

An "anti-discrimination" ordinance is so silly. I don't understand liberals.

Well, I must say I see no need why suddenly men and women should use the same toilets. And the article does not quite make it clear if that was included in the ordinance or not. It just says some people used it as an argument in debate.

Fear of transgender people as sexual predators of children used to defeat something that would not allow discrimination of any type to occur. That's what it is. Now it is (or continues to be) to discriminate in Houston (as in many cities and states) based on race, religion, and yes, sexual orientation.

Well bills like that aren't about men and women using the same toilets, they are about making gender identity a protected class. It's just that the opposition to such bills almost always goes straight to women's bathrooms, particularly the use of them by trans women.

Well, to be honest, I would not want to use the same bathroom as men. First of all there would be urinals in front of the cubicles then, and some men would probably use the occasion to display their pecker to ladies present then. Also there a some lady things we do in these ante-room to the cubicle at which I would not want to have men present either.

But (to narrow the ordinance to its LGBT implications) we are not talking about men using women's toilets. We are talking about transgender women (men who now are women) using them. Shouldn't that be OK?

As I said, I have a problem with that. No matter how much such a transgender person feels like a woman, bodily this person still is a man. I understand her feelings, but I want mine to be understood as well.

LOL Just ridiculous.  I don't understand how you can keep telling yourselves this is completely normal. It's just weird.  Leave politics out of "getting" equality for everyone, and teach young people to respect everyone and be good people.

I understand this and even agree with it. Sadly this was used to defeat a bill that would have prohibited other type of discrimination.

Yes, this is sad indeed.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't particularly agree with it. People have had similar feelings towards sharing facilities with black people in the past, nowadays however the fallout would be massive if a school or apartment were to segregate people by race. It is obviously not an easy situation, and not something most people know much about, but I think trans people should have that same protection.

That's not the same at all. You are comparing apples and oranges.

The logical consequence would be to use unisex bathrooms. Just as we removed the racial barrier we should remove the gender barrier

You're not alone, I don't understand them either.

I don't care about what someone feels their sexual orientation is, but they are still biologically male or female unless they get surgery and I know I wouldn't feel comfortable with a biologically female person in a men's restroom.

If a biological female is willing to put up with being in the essentially the same room that I am taking a dump, then more power to them.

And this is sadly what happens: this one possible transgender-toilet consequence of an anti-discrimination bill obscures the fact that other very serious types of discrimination will be allowed
