By far the heaviest of the first six Black Sabbath LPs. The out-of-place-sounding songs, like the goofy piano ballad and dicking around with electronic sound effect as well as the instrumental that sounds like a Spaghetti Western theme song, actually feel like important "breathers" in the album sequences. I also think Tony Iommi is seriously underrated as a lead guitarist, his solos especially on this album show quite bit of interesting dynamics and use of some odd almost Eastern scales that really add to the psychedelic feel of the music.

Put off these guys for a long time because of how goofy their image is (seriously, did people really dress like that back in the 1970s?) but they do nail the Jimi Hendrix Experience/Cream/Blue Cheer/Grand Funk Railroad fuzzy psychedelic hard rock power trio style perfectly doing a good job balancing updating it with the lessons of 1980s doom metal.

I know pretty much every underground music genre has some kind of associated visual aesthetic the music doesn't really work without, but a lot of recent retro-psychedelic music groups' attempt to imitate 1960s/1970s fashion almost goes into Village People territory.

Agreed but it seems to me he's been sitting still for some time now. I don't mean a complete overhaul but any crative soul needs to avoid stagnation. It's been a while since I last listened to Storm It is certainly one of his best.
