Topic: How much of your music library is prog? Posted: October 20 2015 at 13:08 |
I wanted to find out if anybody comes to this forum for music in general rather than prog.

I really can't see too many coming to this sight if they weren't gaga over prog, but you never know. I like folk, folk rock, some hard rock and metal also.

Prog is probably the most significant part of my collection/musical knowledge, perhaps second only to general pop rock, but I'd still say the first option. I listen to so many different genres. In regards to SteveG's comment I mostly come here for the shred and to an extent the community as a whole. I rarely come here looking for prog or music at all.

First option. I love prog but there's a lot of other great music out there.

Oh, boy, something in 55%... so, 40-60% Thats interesting, I havent noticed how much I have (and I discounted all "prog Related" and artists that I believe are prog but are not in PA). I'am doomed!

I went with the first option and would say that about 15% of my collection is Prog. While I have several albums by each of the top Prog bands on PA I seldom listen to them anymore. Between playing them and hearing them on the radio so much in the seventies I just don't seem interested in hearing them now. I've been discovering and playing so many new bands that are not Prog that I just never reach for one of the classics.

Probably around 70% if you include all the ambient, krautrock, electronica, avant, zeuhl, fusion, nu jazz, chamber rock, post-rock, & space I count in prog.
I actual tend to go to PE more for discussions on non-prog, they have a long running on jazz and knowledgeable sources on classical, indie, psyche and the like.

Same here . We also have a lot of stuff that is classified as Proto-Prog or Prog-Related (The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult, Iron Maiden...).

I haven't been coming to this forum in a long time and yes I've stopped coming for the music mostly but for the forum in general.
Prog in my collection is about 12%.

About 50% I think. My purchases during the last few years have been about 90% prog though, including jazz fusion and some space or kraut rock.
