SEL is an amazing trip, well worth watching. I've seen the first two Arise films and didn't really like them, I gather the recent series is basically the films chopped up with the final episode being the only all new materiel and it's considered worse than the films.
Watched the two Knights of Sidonia series recently, loved it. An excellent bit of Sci-Fi that is more grounded than most, you just have to get around the weird faces. |

Knights of Sidonia was excellent! I enjoyed the hell out of that way more than I thought I would, but yeah, you really need to figure out who's who early on because most of the characters look very similar, except for the mama bear.
![]() I like the idea of Arise, essentially being a prequel to both the original movie and S.A.C., showing how Section 9 came to be. Anything GitS, and I'm there. I absolutely love everything related to it. Edited by MillsLayne - September 23 2015 at 18:50 |

So this season i watched..
Gangsta Braves of the Six Flowers (Rokka no Yuusha) Charlotte All were pretty good. Though Braves is the only one finished so far i'm pretty happy watched these shows. Gangsta is an improved Black Lagoon. More dark and depth to the characters and setting. Main characters is a duo of neutral "handymen" - one is a deaf mercenary trained since a child and the other is a gigolo with a hyper memorization ability. Real unique imo. Braves is about 6 heroes (Saints in this show) that have specialized abilities chosen by the gods to defeat risen demons that come every X years. Though this time there are 7 and so this cour involves inner conflicts between the characters trying to figure out which is the fake when they meet at the rendezvous. Charlotte is an interesting show. Beginning as a slightly slice of life with a "monster of the week" style, it involves a world in which some children develop super powers during adolescent. Characters are likable and its pretty/well produced. There is a twist about half way through that makes the show have a much more interesting plot though - so that was super enjoyable.

I'm the same but it just feels like the characters are off somehow in Arise. |

My wife is going to be mad at me when my order from Amazon comes. I went a little nuts last night and ordered the complete series for Serial Experiments Lain, Ergo Proxy, Phantom: Requiem For The Phantom, and the first two "Borders" of GitS Arise.

SEL is an old favorite that I honestly forgot about and Arise is just more GitS goodness, while Ergo Proxy and Phantom will be completely new for me.

I really need to buy SEL on dvd, I have Haibane Renmei and definitely want SEL and Texhnolyze to complete the "trilogy."

I've heard of Texhnolyze but not seen it yet, definiely on my "to watch" list. Haibane Ranmei is a new name to me but if it's anything like SEL than I'll defintiely watch it.
Ergo Proxy's an excellent series that I love the art style for, I wish it was a style that was still in use. Edited by sleeper - September 25 2015 at 05:38 |

I don't find SEL and Haibane Renmei all that similar, but both are quite good.

Yosh*toshi ABe, the guy who did a lot of character design for SEL did a lot of Haibane Renmei himself. It's def different, but I think still enjoyable for people who like SEL. He was involved with character design for Texhnolyze. |

I've been trying to get into Darker Than Black because I've heard nothing but great things, but I just can't get hooked. It's just okay. I'll keep going, but I feel like I should really be into it when I'm almost half way through the first season.

Nice, for me, I ended up watching more shows than I had ever thought at the beginning. The 9 shows (from worst to best) are as follows: 1. Prison School 2. Gakkou Gurashi! 3. Classroom Crisis 4. Shimoneta 5. Gangsta. 6. God Eater 7. Charlotte 8. Aoharu x Machinegun 9. Dragon Ball Super yeah, the most shocking thing is that the long-running show is at the bottom of this list (I guess i wasn't as into this one as the others, but i'm still going to watch it regardless). This order may change at any time, however. |

DtB totally disappointed me - a lot. I had no idea why this show was hailed so much. I haven't seen SEL, bur Haibane didn't connect to me. I couldn't connect to any of the characters and their story. So it kind of gradually imploded as it continued. Ergo Proxy is one of my Top 5. Also: I've seen Episode 1 of Texhnolyze and was stunned. Great storytelling. Though i stopped it because it wasn't what i was looking to watch at that moment it turnt out. So i put it on hold.

There's a great story there but DtB sucks at world building, there are some pretty fundamental questions regarding the setting that will never be answered in either season. |

I've finished Bakemonogatari and now I'm watching Nisemonogatari. Great visuals but there are lots of humorous dialogue with puns and jokes which probably only work if you understand Japanese and know Japanese culture.

It's funny, I just finished episode 15, and I'm finally starting to enjoy it. Might need to go back and start over now. I just wish I could get a standard blu ray set and not the ginormous special edition that's somewhat expensive. Black Butler and Noir are a couple of other series I've been watching recently that have been pretty good. BB is a strange one that I can't really describe why I like it, because when I think about the premise, it's kind of dumb. ![]() Edited by MillsLayne - September 30 2015 at 03:06 |
