Yep, the bass is nice and think in it! I think the track is called `Today', it's kind of got an 80's poppish vibe, with some nice grinding guitar noise throughout too!

Yeah, I like that sauntering jazzy track too! Actually, there's not a bad track on the whole album. I'm assuming it's a single vinyl too, as it runs 51 minutes? Perfect length, really.

^ I believe it's a single, Mike. Mine's on order at the JB not too far from home. The new Maiden is superb.

Yep, both good albums, mate!

I think you'll dig the Gilmour one, Tom. It's not prog at all (well, one or two tracks come a little close to Floyd), but it's a great album. A very strong release from Mr Gilmour, and he doesn't sound like a tired old man with nothing to say either. The album sounds inspired and full of ideas.

I never expect any Prog from his solo releases, but his music is certainly not bland or uninspired Pop Rock. I quite like the orchestral work on the last two albums.

This morning:
Goblin - Profondo Rosso
Goblin - Suspiria
Goblin - Return To Goblin
(They were all short and awesome, so I had to listen to them all! Big smile)

A wonderful album, that one, Gary! Constantly lovely instrumental passages, beautifully played as well. What a shame the band decided to more or less ditch their RPI roots altogether on their release from earlier this year, even if it is still a rather good album in its own way.

It's strange, I thought I'd actually reviewed it for the site, turned out I'd simply MEANT to review it! Should really get around to it.

I have special feelings for this one, it's actually an album I lent to my folks, and they enjoyed it very much.

The Sun Is New Each Day was one of my purchases from Greg Walker's new list. I liked it a lot and
then found Inuit on YouTube and included it in my second order yesterday.

Well, at least one of us heard something to love in that album. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but it didn't do too much for me on the first full spin. But, now with both yours and Sagi's thoughts on it in the back of my mind, I'll give it another go soon.

Anyway, here's an update from me:

Saturday:

Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother
Ozric Tentacles - Technicians of the Sacred (First impression: found it quite good. I don't regret the puchase at all, Sam. But I agree, it's missing some punch and groove.)
Dream Theater - Train of Thought (Tried to pay extra attention to the production this time around, Nick, but, as mentioned, not exactly my area of expertise LOL, so I couldn't say if it's something extraordinary or not. It was as good a listen as always though. Thumbs Up Another good, but not great album, this one, for me, like I've found most of the albums of theirs I've heard. Never heard a bad DT album though, but they've never really blown me away either (although I do like I&W and Six Degrees, a lot), which puts them squarely in Pink Floyd land for me. Wink)
Rainbow - Rising (Never get tired of this one. Always hits the spot!)
The Mars Volta - Live
The Mars Volta - Amputechture

Sunday:

The Mars Volta - Octahedron
The Mars Volta - Noctourinquet
Vespero - Fitful Slumber Until 5 A.M. (First impression: quite different from their previous album, Droga, but (almost) as good. Clap)
Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts
Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn
Solaris - Marsbéli Krónikák
Camel - The Snow Goose
King Crimson - Live at the Orpheum (Did they really use three drummers on this one? Did they need to? Didn't sound like it to me, but perhaps I'm underestimating his capabilities and that's really what it takes to replicate Bruford. LOL)
Opeth - Ghost Reveries (Another first impression: liked it, but not as much as Still Life. Easily prefer it to their last two albums though.)

Monday:

Battles - Mirrored
Möbius Project - Ra Me Nivar
Ut Gret - Ancestors' Tale (Saw you discussing this in the PE thread the other day, Sam. I've been listening to it frequently since late last year, and I still haven't discovered the qualities I'm sure it has. It's peculiar though, as, instrumentally, it's right up my alley. It's just...I don't know, the compositions just aren't doing anything particularly for me, at least not yet.)
Atomic Ape - Swarm (Another RIO album from last year I haven't fully "got" yet.)

Tuesday:

Leprous - Coal
Leprous - The Congregation (Got a better impression of it this time around, Nick, but I still don't think it's anywhere near as good as Coal)
Arcturus - Arcturian (Great album! The vocals still rubs me the wrong way though, but only slightly.)

Yesterday:

Dødheimsgard - A Umbra Omega
Enslaved - In Times

Today:

Encenathrakh - s/t
Gorguts - Obscura
Thantifaxath - Sacred White Noise

Hey! What a great few days for you listening wise.
For Dream theater's: Train Of Thought what is truly amazing about it production wise is the album's overall mix. Kevin "caveman" Shirley is an expert in this regard. I mean when there is so much going on at once in an album and you can pick out any instrument with great alacrity it's a thing of beauty. :)
You'll also notice that all Iron Maiden' albums have the same magnification in instrument separation as well cause mr. Shirley is at the helm. However, when you have sensitive analytical gear like headphones or IEM'a where you can hear even a bloody pin drop, this production value is truly magnified beautifully. :)
Great audio gear is a worthy investment.
Also, I feel I like Leprous's Coal a tad better as well, although I know Congregation is a real grower...I think a few more listens on your and my part, we'll soon put this ahead of the pack.

Do you like them very much, David? I kind of figured they might be a little `clean' sounding RPI-wise for your taste? Not having a go at all, I just know you like a little toughness and dirt!

When I think of that album, I often think `synth-porn'?! Just over every inch of it!

LOL Synthporn is a very nice word for it, indeed!

I like it but I don't love it. I guess you know my tastes well by now as you actually used the same word for the album as I did: 'clean'Shocked -Perhaps a little too clean for my tastes....but I think that's down to the production side of things.
It may grow on me thoughBig smile

Dave. You kill me, brother!

Unreal city: too clean
Transatlantic: too much lotion.
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

Last little bit.

Gary Numan: I Assassin
Saviour Machine-- 2
Goblin rebirth- s/t
GYBE-- zero riot for a new zero Kanada.
Pendragon-- the man who climbed mountains. ( this album has something very special to it. I guess it's the subject matter and the epic guitar solos that really agrees with me. Solid album. )
APP-- turn of a friendly card. ( once again, the tonality of the instruments on this album is dead accurate. A real gem. Alan may be my favourite sound guru of all time. )
Royal hunt--- paradox 1&2 ( I may pick up their latest. )
Iron maiden-- the book of souls.
Draconian-- arcane rain fall
Sisters of mercy-- kissing the blade
Arena- The Cry
Arena--- contagion max ( I this better than that of the original.)
Marillion-- marbles
Fields of the Nephilim-- Mourning Sun ( it's official, next year a new album will be out!!! It's been 11 years. 😳)
Vanden Plas-- chronicles pt 1 ( can't wait for part 2 in November!! )
Pink Floyd-- obscured by clouds
Disturbed-- immortalized
Vangelis-- el Greco
Tangerine dream- riding the ray ( love Alchemy of the heart. One of their very best I feel. )

Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

I still listen to `Mountains' quite often, Nick. There's moments of real beauty on that one, even if it's not quite consistently strong all the way through. But, man, when it takes off....

Ha! I used to listen to that particular Alan Parsons Project album all the time, now I don't think I've played it in ten years! But it always felt like one of their best, so many catchy melodic gems on that one. `Goldbug' was a cool instrumental as well! Hmmm, might have to dig it out again!

Urgh, Alan Parsons was bafflingly interviewed on Aussie morning TV a year or so back when Pink Floyd's `The Endless River' was released. Why I don't exactly know, other than his connection to 70's Floyd. But my LORD the guy was so boring (and bored) and had nothing to say, and he seemed as confused as to why they were talking to him about it as I was!
