If YS wasn't in my top 10 albums of alltime.. not just prog albums.. that would have been a murderous vote.  Heart

I do think YS can win.. don't think it will. TRC is simply a divine album and a 1000 times more accessible (and englishWink) than YS.

the two that I really will be interested in. and could be absolue nail biters are the Octopus v. Storia di Minuto and In Absentia v. Spirit of Eden battles

Aw man that's some fantastic stuff. Delighted to see Storia and Ys break out of very tough opposition.

Views for the next round... I need to actually listen to the moderns.

^ if I was to put money/odd on the results.. I'd almost see those the exact same way.

If Hatchett makes it through.. I could see it beating Rock Bottom/Yeti. No ONE thought UZ had those those kinds of votes. I know I saw that poll as one that would be 'over' in the first day.

normally I like to wait on finishing the tiebreakers before starting the next series of polls but I guess the lack of inertia to get to 10 votes will in effect be a penalty and a late start.

Starting with the moderns.  Excuse the lack of creativity.. I sort of ran out of ideas on how to present these last series of polls. Samples we did.. everyone should know the album.. or how and where to find them to listen to them and pretty much beat the album review notion into the ground. I suppose at this point.. they should need no introduction.

This is the poll that never ends
Yes, it goes on and on, my friends.
Micky started it so Italians finally win,
Twenty years later, and the selection's mighty thin.

The classics were four relatively easy decisions for me, with Yeti >>>>>>> UZ rounding it out. Rotters/Ys is the closest but Rotters is probably a top 5 album for me now and Ys isn't quite that (Palepoli on the other hand... that would be tight).

The really interesting stuff this week is going to be listening through all the moderns since the field's been thinned enough I have the time to do it.

LOL Actually, so did I... Not many people stick with the same avatar, but when they do, it's hard to separate the two.

I wonder how many of the PH voters also voted for Octopus ? Maybe an upset on the cards ?

Nah, wishful thinking. Lets face it the Pawnheartists will keep voting for the damn thing until the cows are well and truly bedded down. Nothing can stop this. Me I reckon that the only people to listen to PH in the last thirty years were the ones who voted against it.

As a Pawnheartista, I've had a look at the full classics and come up with 12 of the original 128 that I'd probably vote for over it. By the fourth round it was down to three, I think only The Rotters' Club is left now. Regardless, the alternative was the cuddly Camel sweeping all and leaving devastation in their wake.

Yep ... I love the RC so will be rooting for that to the bitter end. I think I voted for PH once and then purely on the basis that inspired craziness deserves the odd pat on the back. To be fair, at that stage I hadn't listened to any VDGG for thirty odd years and my initial reaction to PH after all that time was "oh christ this is simply effing awful".  I've softened that stance a tadge since then but even so I couldn't care less if I never hear it again. Otoh I find some of PH's solo stuff somewhat more palatable especially (and I realise this could get me shot) "In a Foreign Town". LOL  I've not listened to his solo stuff extensively btw but I also rather like PH7.

I think the round of 16 had more drama in it. This last one was four easyish votes for me. The RPI albums are all out but they had a great showing. I'm astonished with how well Ceux du dehors did. None of my modern picks made it through and all of my classic picks did.

For this round...

Rotters Club > Pawn Hearts. Pawn Hearts is maybe my third favourite VDGG album and behind at least four Hammill solo efforts (Chameleon, In Camera, Fall of the House of Usher, Loops & Reels - not to mention the amazing Skeletons of Songs bootleg)... I'd honestly like Rotters Club to sweep the whole thing... every time I listen to it I love it more and more.

Octopus vs. Yeti will be really tight for me. I'm likely to plump for Octopus on the grounds of the highs, much as Yeti's a tiny bit more consistent. Octopus vs. Wolf City I know I'd be voting for Amon Duul.

Hybris vs. Vemod will take a relisten
De-Loused I probably prefer to Spirit of Eden but neither of them really get me where it counts.
