It really is agreeing with me. I love it. Doesn't feel overly lengthy to me either. Time flys listening to this one. ![]() |

Hey, Nick, No no no! I don't think that the Riverside album `tanked' at all!

Another Riverside comment... Very mellow, yes. Pop/rock? Hmmm, I wouldn't say that. And Riverside has never been a lots of notes and odd time signatures kind of band. The sticker on the label said something like "masters of atmospheric prog", and this is a perfect description. I wouldn't call it "less prog" than, say, Pink Floyd or Anathema. (Of course many would not consider them prog, so...)

Oh god. More sonic candy to my ears. Today was a day where I was hit with quality recordings after quality recordings. Studio genius work if you will. I highly recommend these albums. :)
Ozric tentacles--- paper monkeys (not their best sonically, but studio production wise? Yes. ;) Iron maiden-- the book of souls ( Kevin Shirley is a genius.) NIN-- pretty hate machine (2010 remaster)-- you will not find much better audio quality around than this album. Maybe dire straights "brothers in arms" might have slightly better dynamic range.) Black sabbath-- live evil ( surprisingly this is very well done. ) Powerhouse-- in an ambient way. (It's a binaural headphone recording for godsakes! ;) |

Carpe Nota, one of my favourite instrumental discs of the last few years.
http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=40033 That is the track that has what my friend and I jokingly call the Maiden gallop, you'll pick it when you hear it! ![]() Civico 23 is a heavier Italian band, put out that one album that's rather good. I think a follow-up should be on the way fairly soon? A band well worth a listen! http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=43657 |

Yeah, I'm listening to the Carpe Nota one again right now, and it not only has a real tough guitar sound, but an overload of what my friend and I affectionately call `synth porn' over every bit of it!
![]() The whole album is terrific beginning to end, I spin it at work quite a lot, which lead to a colleague saying `God, does the soloing ever stop?!' and I asked `The keyboards or the guitars?', and the replied `BOTH!' ![]() (and the answer is no!) ![]() Civico 23 have a great singer, and the band show a wild sense of humour too - pretty sure that track almost has some pirate influences?! ![]() |

![]() ![]() I could tell that. The track is called "The Deluded Knight" though, it doesn't seem pirate related

I dug out that Le Orme album last weekend and found myself enjoying it far more than what I normally do. I simply adore the opener, always have, but normally my interest wanes afterwards. This time though, I really got into it - all the way through no less ![]() Speaking of Italians, did you ever check out Franco Leprino? His unique mix of Berlin school electronics and RPI should be right up your alley (or did we have this conversation before? ![]() |

Just had my breakfast along with Alan's consciousness-expanding one. It's...mmm...well, it's an experience at least. ![]()
I never pay much attention to production, at least not details, but for an audiohile like you I can imagine that's a crucial part to the listening experience. Never thought the production on Train was anything particular (but, again, I'm not an audiohile ![]() ![]() ![]()
Funny you should mention "Echoes"...that's another one I've never really gotten into. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyway, this week so far for me: Monday: The Decemberists - The Crane Wife The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love (Saw you spun these two not long ago, Sagi, which inspired me to do the same. Which of the two do you prefer? Not really my cup of tea, The Decemberists, although I certainly don't find them bad. The biggest problem I have with them is that their vocalist sounds too much like Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day. ![]() Möbius Project - Ra Me Nivar (Great album, Michael! Went and checked it out on your recommendation, didn't need to hear it all the way through before I'd decided to order one of the few remaining copies of it. ![]() Homunculus Res - Limiti all'eguaglianza della Parte con il Tutto Tuesday: Quella Vecchia Locanda - s/t Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick Ian Anderson - TaaB 2 Gryphon - Treason Wednesday: Tyrannosaurus Rex - My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair... Tyrannosaurus Rex - Prophets, Seers & Sages: The Angels of the Ages Tyrannosaurus Rex - Unicorn Tyrannosaurus Rex - A Beard of Stars Pentangle - Reflection Bert Jansch - Avocet Fairport Convention - "Babbacombe" Lee Thursday: Secret Green - To Wake the King White Willow - Sacrament White Willow - Signal to Noise Rick Wakeman - The Six Wives of Henry VIII Strawbs - s/t Strawbs - Dragonfly Yesterday: Strawbs - From the Witchwood Strawbs - Grave New World Strawbs - Bursting at the Seams Strawbs - Hero and Heroine (Probably my least favourite out of these five. Another case of concept taking priority over the music, as far as I'm concerned. And they'd lost too much of their folk sound here, too, for me.) Strawbs - Ghosts |
