South Park because:

Firstly, with Trey Parker writing in every episode, it is much more consistent. Unlike the Simpsons, there are barely any unfunny episodes.

Secondly, there is more swearing which makes it less sanitised and realistic.

Thirdly, you sympathise with the kids more because they have moments of sobriety.

To be fair, I've seen way more Simpsons than South Park. The Simpsons, in it's prime, managed to take the piss out of American society and culture and human nature in general while also providing emotional and moral story lines played out by characters that, under their often comedic, ridiculous surfaces, are complex and endearing. From what I've seen, South Park is pretty funny (if a bit over the top) but doesn't quite have the substance that the Simpsons once had.

I find South Park quite a bit funnier but I do agree about the 'substance' that the Simpsons have so much of.

Well I haven't really watched either in a few years, back in the day I was more of a Simpson's fan. My nephew got me into South Park and they are funny. Both have probably been on the air a few years longer than they need to. Futurama took the Simpson's place when it came out.

Simpsons because South Park is very funny but it always goes so over the top and messes with my mind in a way. Also, there's so many prog references in episodes! The Moody Blues had to capture Homer and Flanders in Vegas once, Bart prefers Peter Gabriel over Phil Collins, Homer sings Lucky Man in the car and starts driving randomly to the moog and so many more!

South Park, simply because there are no sacred cows.
