And what argument clinched it?

Probably.
No arguments necessary, unfortunately.

No, but I've blown holes in every argument they made to support their position, and still they wouldn't yield. After a time it becomes pointless as they continue to fall back on the "faith" argument. Most hard core theists don't want to hear or acknowledge facts and science when it comes to challenging their belief system.

I converted back to theism because Christianity is the backbone of a civilized populous. Also because death is depressing otherwise.

I don't think so. I believe the universe is made up of a finite amount of matter. We are all a part of that matter. When we "die" that matter reverts back into the universe to be reused in some other manner. The think that people sweat about is memories, which are chemical reactions within the matter we are made of. So the reactions no longer take place but the matter continues on. I'm good with that.

I went from theist to agnostic then atheist based on the nonsense that was being preached at me.

I suspect that is the route many of us took.

The crux of my atheism is that reality is what it is. Faith will not alter it.
I was young when I determined that I was an atheist. I have come to think that some people are too far gone with their emotional reliance on religion to abandon their theist notions without some profound disillusionment. So, no I haven't converted anyone, and I've abandoned the idea of trying.
But if they try to convert me, then I am less tactful. I have also recently had a friend inquire with genuine curiosity about my attitude toward religion. When such occasions arise, I point out that evolution isn't the biggest problem with creationism. Time is. I also point out that in order to convert me to Christianity, they have to convince me of a whole lot more than simply there is a god. They have to convince me, among many things, that he's actively involved with our daily activities. After all if there is a god that has done nothing beyond an original act of creation, but isn't actually seeking worshippers, then what's the point of worship? The upshot is, I think a good defense is the best offense in this case.

I just read an interview of a soul who was between lives at the moment and remembered all of their past and future lives and they said that there is no god but the soul lives forever. Since it was first hand evidence and they also said that the aliens often visit earth I'm pretty convinced.
