I have joined yesterday and I am a 15 year old but I have been a visitor regularly since last few months, what I have noticed is some reviewers want to rate an album 3.5 but since they can't they m koake it 4 stars, which well would affect the overall ranking in top prog albums right? and it seems a bit unfair to jot it down to 0.5 less, what are your thoughts?

I don't know how Teo knows that, but I believe him.

First of all, welcome to the site....Smile

I'd even go as far as wanting to reinstall the zero star rating that was enforced for some six months a few years ago.

Alas, for some reason, this diid not last long

However, you asking for (the 0.5 ) doesn't make much seense, if you're not going to allow total half-star ratings (meaning 1.5   2.5   3.5   4.5 as well as the 0.5)... sorry if I misunderstood  you - as I susppect I did

It's possible, but would effectively requite Max to reprogram a lot of the site. If PA ever gets a major overhaul, that would likely be included in the update, but I'm not so sure an update of that size is on the horizon for a little while.

I need a review system that goes out to 6 decimal places.  That's why I never write reviews.

I don't like the concept of half a star.

One star says it best.

I'd like to see it change to 5 vinyl discs and get rid of the stars altogether Wink

Is it technically possible to provide a 10 stars rating system?

^ What a mess that would be.

Why?
3/5 = 6/10
4/5 = 8/10
3.5=7
4.5=9
Etc... And the half star problem is resolved.

Would absolutely love to have half stars, I've got a decent list of albums where I simply cannot review at the moment simply because it needs that 0.5 star. Without it I feel guilty underrating the album or guilty that I'm inflating the number of stars I'm giving out. Granted it would be quite a overhaul, but at least it would reduce the number of people giving 5 stars to albums left, right and center.

Exactly.
Five stars are too restrictive. With ten stars, ratings would be more accurate and truthful for sure.

The vast majority of PA members wants this....and have wished for it for the last 7-8 years, but as mentioned earlier, this is all down to the owner of the site. Admins and mods have no say in these sorts of decisions.

What if we tried to lobby the owner, perhaps we could offer clicking on an advertisement every time we enter the site. Of coarse it would have to be on an honor system.

Please, be kind to the Music - when in doubt how to rate, always give half a star for free (they come cheap, these days) and raise your rating to the next upper level.

You'll see, it won't hurt and everybody will be happier Beer

we should eschew album ratings as a whole and implement communal pseudo-random charts and hang anyone that submits a review for crimes against music
