My 8-year old nephew is addicted to Minecraft.  I have no idea what he is doing with it but he is constantly playing it on his tablet or watching Minecraft on YouTube.  (Not sure what that is all about but it amuses him so whatever floats his boat).

My two youngest cousins do it too
It isn't really about much, it's a blocky world where you can remove and place blocks everywhere and there's animals and some monsters which you can attack or domesticate and it's all some sort of simplified normal life without any purpose
