Topic: Revolver vs Sgt. Pepper's' Posted: May 07 2015 at 14:44 |
The answer would appear simple, but Revolver was ahead of its time in its own right and came first. Your thoughts.

Sgt. Pepper easily - not sure why Revolver is now seen as the better album. It's brilliant, but not in the same league of experimentation and forward-thinking-ness as its successor. Then again, it does have Yellow Submarine, aka the soundtrack to my childhood

Peppers by a mile. Revolver has many songs I consider average where Peppers is perfect beginning to end...the 1st prog concept album

I very rarely listen to Beatles, but by coincidence I have listened to Revolver just 3 days ago...I wouldn't have had the same inspiration from Sgt Pepper, I'm afraid.

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Sgt. Pepper is not a concept album, prog or otherwise.

Revolver by the thickness of a hair. Both albums are masterpieces, but Revolver has passed the test of time better.

Revolver. Because I think early prog was already influenced by that album and previous Beatles' releases. The songwriting is stronger, there is no McCartney granny music, and I prefer the Indian influences on Love You To and Tomorrow Never Knows over Within You Without You.

Neither: Abbey Road . It has my three favorite Beatles tracks (Because, Sun King, Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight), two great George Harrison tracks (Something, Here Comes the Sun), some great Lennon tracks (Come Together, I Want You). But from the list, I'll go with Sgt Pepper.

Both are genuine masterpieces. Sgt Pepper's is musically stronger. But revolver is "catchier", you know.

Why must you torcher us with these impossible decisions? Sgt. Pepper because it needs more votes.

Sgt. Pepper has never been a favorite of mine - too many dull tracks. But Revolver - now there's a great album.
