Hello everyone.
Just a quick note to inform you that the new-blood of Italian prog is about to release their 4th album. BAROCK PROJECT announced the birth of SKYLINE. And what a birth that is... backed up by 2 Prog giants as Paul Whitehead (need I say more about mr.Genesis logo&cover designer?) and Vittorio De Scalzi (the father of Italian prog founder of New Trolls and co-author of Concerto Grosso 1-2-3 and Seven Season) who decided spontaneously to appear in this new work. Luca Zabbini, leader and author of all Barock Project music since 2005, has signed 10 beautiful new tracks all sung in English and looking at a wide international audience. The band is currently in Kickstarter campaign since they decided to go independant and raise the final funds to mix&master the album. Check this out: http://kck.st/1y8KA11 Stay tuned... Skyline is the new release of 2015! |

Deus ex Machina is many things but not Punk. For me one of the strongest bands ever. They are not very RPI though, closest Thing would be Area. There are about 12 or so bands called Deus ex Machina so must have got the wrong one. Try this

IL Bacio Della Medusa are awesome, they have 3 Albums, all are good but the one that Piere recommended is the best. The only Album from Samsara is good but very hard to find. (note that there are several bands with that Name) La Maschera Di Cera and Finistere are both bands from Fabio Zuffanti and not to far apart from each other. If you like one, try the others (there is also the very strong Höstsonaten) Germinale are OK, but theweakest from the list.

^ Agree with H on this list, although to my ears Finisterre is more alternative-leaning while La Maschera di Cera tends more toward classic RPI sound. Pierre's recommended album of BDM is also my favorite of theirs.
Also agree that Germinale is not quite as good as the others, although I do really like their second album, e il Suo Respiro Ancora Agita le Onde. And I love Deus Ex Machina! I think you either love or hate the amazing voice of Alberto Piras. They should have a new one out shortly.
^^^ Michael's review of the Tempio delle Clessidre DVD was awesome! That's a great show by a great band. |

My husband and I have been getting into Italian Prog the last two years. We love it, and I am envious of your purchase!

^^ There are some very informed and helpful members here.
I have quite a few RPI albums from the 70s but I was missing a lot.

Good choices! TdC is one of my favourite bands. That BdM Album is awesome. I would go for the first and Petali di Fuoco for MdC. But those two are great also. (they don't have a weak Album) Be sure to check these bands too: La Torre dell'Alchimista (second Album "Neo") Egonon Gran Turismo Veloce Eris Pluvia (Rings of earthly Light) Nuovo Era Ezra Winston Mad Crayon Edited by TheH - April 16 2015 at 13:02 |

Wow. I'm suprised. It's on Discogson CD. A few years ago it was impossible to find. I've paid mine a fortune

^ Every once in a while you see it on eBay for 20-30. The discogs price is a good one on that album. Too bad it hasn't been reissued since the Giallo version in the late 90s. But I think it's out on digital formats, like iTunes, etc.

When I think about all the money I spent for the old Mellow Cds, I feel dizzy.

^ Well, that's true! But they're so well done sonically... like the new Nuova Idea versions don't sound nearly as good as the original Mellows. The Mellow/Polydor releases of Jumbo, Ibis, Locanda delle Fate, etc sound phenomenal!

Since I've been listening to a lot of Italian bands lately I decided to revisit a band
that I could never get behind. I'm listening to Sognondo E Risognando by Formula 3. I've tried a few times over the years to like this band (I also have La Grande Casa) but I can't find enough on either album that I like. Side two of Sognando is a little better than side one but not much. Is it just me?

Yeah, but you got to start somewhere. Right? I'm buying the basic discs "the classics" and as much new future classic RPI stuff as I can find. I also like the 70's Italian Jazz Fusion. Bands like Perigeo!

Is it just me? No, I's not just you. I hate the side 1, worst cover of a Battisti song ever. Side 2 is better.

I've been buying a lot of the classics reissued on CD as well. I was missing things from bands like Nova, Arti & Mestieri and Osanna but this thread has so many bands that I wasn't even aware of back then. I've been going through hellogoodbye's list on page 321.
