Two early 90s classic dramas about convinction and "growing-up", learning it e hard way, rebelliousness, expectations etc...
an offiser is IMO Richard Geres best film in hes carear, he should have receved an Acadamy Award for it... |

Two movies that have virtually nothing in common. I prefer Dead Poets.

An Officer and a Gentleman, just because Debra Winger was hot for 15 minutes.

Dead Poets really hit me hard - I left the movie and had it on my mind for days. I should see it a second time sometime.
Officer and Gentleman was a great film too but didn't affect me as much. |

"Early 90s"? Officer was 1982. Poets was 1989.
Can't remember liking either too much. Edited by Finnforest - March 14 2015 at 17:38 |

Really? I think you can do better than that-- Gentleman was a cheesy Hollywood melodrama with bad acting that inexplicably became a hit. Dead Poets was not. And Finny's right, they were quintessential 80s pics (not a great decade for American movies).

No contest, DPS is far better. One of the few films I've actually blubbed at (when the pupils stand up at the end).

Dead Poet's Society, possibly the best ending to a film ever.
